National High School Senior Championships Key Points:
To qualify for the National High School Wrestling Championships, you must be a high school senior who is a current or former state finalist. The National Championships will start in Pittsburgh, PA on March 22nd, 2006. USA Wrestling-KS has organized this trip for the past 16 years and will do so again this year. Last year’s 37 Kansas participants included 5 All-Americans, bringing our total to 68. It’s an opportunity to compete with, meet and watch the elite wrestlers from other states and experience a great weekend of wrestling. In addition, many college coaches will be looking for scholarship athletes. In last year’s NCAA Division I Championships, 16 of the 20 finalists and more than 80% of the All-Americans competed in the NHSCA National HS Senior Championships as seniors. We’ll be on a very tight schedule for arrangements this year so we need your positive responses as soon as possible. Traveling as a team and staying together in Pittsburgh keeps the cost down for everyone. We suggest you contact businesses, booster clubs, friends, relatives, etc. for donations to cover at least part of your expenses. Previous fundraisers held by booster clubs or wrestlers have included hog raffles, chili suppers, bake-sales, car washes, etc. The costs this year are expected to be around $500 per person, plus additional money for meals, souvenirs or any other purchases.
