4A Assistant Coach of the Year

               Assistant Coach of the Year winner, Bobby Bovaird, helped led the 2000-2001 Baldwin High School wrestlers to an 8-4 season. With five state qualifiers and one medalists, they exceeded their 1999-2000 season, which had 2 state qualifiers and one medalists.

               Bovaird has been coaching at Baldwin High School since 1999. Before that he was the Assistant Coach at Washburn Rural Middle School for a year. He was on the 2000-2001 Coaching Staff for Cadet Nation Team in Kansas, and is also a bronze-level USAW Certified Coach. Bovaird has helped coach two state medalists and six cadet freestyle All-Americans.

               He will graduate from Baker University in December of 2002 with an English/Secondary Education Major. His accomplishments as a competitor include 6th place at 6A state in the 152-pound class in 1997 and a 4th place finish for Washburn Rural High School. He was a 1998 Metro Classic Athlete and a 1998 All-City in the Topeka Capital Journal, and competed in the 1997 Team Kansas Jr. Nationals. He is Academic All-State and Academic All-American with a 4.19 GPA.

               He was presented an original novella at the 2001 National Undergraduate Literature Conference in Ogden, Utah. He is a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity and has been accepted into Sigma Tan Delta, which is the International English Honors Society.
