6A Senior Wrestler of the Year

Leavenworth High School

 

               Wrestling at 125 lbs. his senior year, Bunch went undefeated with a record of 43-0.  He was the tournament champion in the Leavenworth Challenger, Lee’s Summit Invitational, also named MVP, Excelsior Springs Tiger Classic, and the Newton Tournament of Champions. He won the Shawnee Mission North Invitational, was the Sunflower League champion, the Regional champion, and the State champion.

               During his career at Leavenworth High School he compiled a total record of 150 wins and only 10 losses.  He was in the top two at state all 4 years; finishing 2nd his freshman and sophomore years and then back- to -back championships his junior and senior years.  He accumulated numerous tournament championships throughout his high school years with 3 Leavenworth Challenger titles, 3 Excelsior Springs Tournament titles, 3 Newton Tournament titles, 3 Shawnee Mission North Tournament titles, 4 Sunflower League titles, and finally 3 Regional titles.  He was selected for the Kansas City Area –All Metro team 2 years, he was 2nd team his junior year and honorable mention his sophomore year. 

               Along with being named a USA Wrestling All-American, he finished 6th at High School Nationals.  Bunch is also All-American Cadets (GR & FS) and Juniors (GR & FS).

               From his 2000-2001 season he holds records in career takedowns, career and season nearfalls, career falls, career and season match points and team points and season wins, 43, and career wins, 150.  Along with all his wrestling accomplishments he was an honorable mention tailback in the Sunflower League.

               Bunch will attend Edinboro University in Pennsylvania.
