4A Coach of the Year - 2001

Dennis Charbonneau
Clay Center Community High School

 

               Dennis Charbonneau has been the head coach of Clay Center Community High School for the past five years. This past year Charbonneau led the team to its highest state finish in twenty years. The Clay Center team finished fourth this past season. The tigers also won their first Regional title in many years. The Clay Center team this past season had five state medallists, a state champion, two third, a fourth and fifth place finisher. This is the most medallists ever for a Clay Center team.

               The Clay Center team under Coach Charbonneau has finished in the top eight, in the always-competitive 4A-state tournament for the past four years. They have finished 8th, 8th, 6th, and 4th.

               Charbonneau was the head coach for Anderson County High School for 1990-1996. While at Anderson County, Charbonneau coached seven of the nine state medallists in the history of the school at that time.

               Charbonneau is a Clay Center Community High School graduate himself. While in high school, he won three state titles for the tigers.

               Charbonneau attended Colby Community College after high school, where he was a two-year letterman for the Trojans. He was also a two time Junior College Academic All-American while at CCC. Charbonneau graduated from Fort Hays State University in 1989 with a degree in Chemistry. He is currently the Chemistry and Physics teacher for Clay Center Community High School.
