6A Senior Wrestler of the Year - 2002

Olathe South’s Justin Dyer capped a stellar career for the Falcons by winning his third state title last season. The 189-pound team captain was 39-0 as a senior after going 41-0 as a junior, 29-1 as a sophomore, and 36-2 as a freshman. He won three state titles and placed third as a freshman.

His 145-3 career record included 95 consecutive wins, 73 pins, 25 technical falls, and 26 tournament championships. He also was a multiple All-American in Fargo, North Dakota, at the Cadet and Junior freestyle and Greco-roman national tournament.

In his senior season, Dyer won titles at Ark City, Johnson County, Derby, Jefferson City (Mo.), Grandview (Mo.), Sunflower League, regionals, and state. He culminated his senior year with a sixth-place All-American finish at the NHSWCA national tournament.

In addition to wrestling success, Dyer also named all-state and was a team captain for his football team, being named to the Kansas Top 11 team as well. He proved success in the classroom with a 3.9 GPA, being named Academic All-State, Academic All-American, and received a President’s Award for Academic Excellence. He also was honored for a Citizenship Award by the KSHSAA, the Kansas City Star Scholar Athlete of the Year, and the Best Athlete Award at Olathe South High School. Dyer is currently wrestling at the University of Oklahoma with plans to major in business then law.
