5A Coach of the Year - 2002

Bishop Carroll Catholic High School

 

Mark Stovall of Bishop Carroll Catholic High School is the 5A Coach of the Year award winner after leading his team to the 5A team title in dominating fashion. Stovall’s Bishop Carroll squad recorded an impressive four individual state champions and had 10 total placers to dominate their way to the 5A crown last year.

Bishop Carroll also finished as GWAL and regional champions, and posted an undefeated 12-0 dual record, competing against many of the top teams in the state from the Wichita area.

Stovall was also named the GWAL Coach of the Year last year, an honor he has won for three consecutive years now. His Bishop Carroll team’s dual records are 3-4-1 in 1998-99; 7-1 in 1999-2000; 11-2 in 2000-01; and 12-0 in 2001-02. His four-year total dual record includes 33 wins to 7 losses and 1 tie for an 82% winning percentage.

Stovall previously served as an assistant coach at Wichita North High School in 1997-98 before coming to Bishop Carroll. He was an assistant coach at Ponca City High School in Oklahoma from 1994-96.

Stovall, a 1997 graduate of Kansas Newman University in Wichita, currently teaches World History at Bishop Carroll High School in addition to his wrestling coaching duties
