Media of the Year - 2003

JACK KRIER
Russell Daily News

Winning a Media of the Year Award this year for his work in Russell is Jack Krier. Serving as Newspaper Publisher/Sports Writer for the Russell Daily News, Krier has been a sports journalist since 1956 and has provided years of tremendous coverage to the sport of wrestling.

Krier has owned various newspapers in several states since 1964 after graduating from South Dakota State University in 1963 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism and Printing Plant Management.

Krier has greatly helped the sport of wrestling enhance its coverage as he has “attempted to publicize wrestling and wrestlers on an even keel with basketball since the 1960’s,” he said.

He has accumulated many fond memories of covering wrestling over the years.

“Wrestling is the most exciting spectator sport in America,” he explained. “Wrestlers, on the whole, are more dedicated than other athletes. As a general rule, wrestling does not receive its fair share of publicity. I believe that’s not true with our newspaper.”
