Winning the head coach of the year honors for the 321A division is long-time Oakley High School coach Dale Samuelson. Oakley High School has called Samuelson coach for 31 years, and Samuelson’s honors have been numerous and impressive over the years.

The 2003-04 Oakley squad placed fourth at state with two state champs and three placers. It was the 30th time Oakley has finished in the top ten in Coach Samuelson’s 31 y ears. Samuelson has coached 31 state champs and 104 state placers at Oakley.

Samuelson graduated from Kansas State University in 1973. His first coaching job was at Kansas State after legendary Fritz Knorr.

As a wrestling, Samuelson placed fourth in the NJCAA tournament in 1969 and again in 1970. He was also a Big 8 placer for the Kansas State Wildcats.

Samuelson was awarded a Coach of the Year honor in 2000 as well for the 321A division. The coaches also selected Samuelson as the recipient as the Kansas Coaches Association Coach of the Year award winner for the 2003-04 season for all classes.
