Media of the Year - 2006

JIM EMRICK
Times Sentinel

Jim Emrick’s service covering wrestling for the Times Sentinel is being recognized for a Media of the Year award. Emrick was nominated by the Goddard High School coach Ryan Jilka.

Emrick was a sports writer for six and a half years for the Time Sentinel. He previously was a writer/editor in Medicine Lodge and for the Pratt Tribune as a writer.

Emrick was a graduate of Pratt Community College with an associate’s degree.

He provided extensive coverage of wrestling programs at four area high schools: Cheney, Garden Plain, Clearwater, and Goddard. He featured weekly news coverage and features of the teams’ accomplishments and standouts.

Sadly, Mr. Emrick passed away at the end of the summer due to heart failure. It was a very hard time for the community.

“It was a very big loss for the community,” said Goddard coach Ryan Jilka. “He covered a lot of local sports, but he put great effort into covering wrestling.”

Emrick’s contributions to the youth of his community have been impactful and appreciated, and the KWCA is honored to be able to recognize him for this honor.
