GREG & LEANNA GRATER
Green (Clay Center)

Anyone involved in USA Wrestling-Kansas has to know of the countless contributions of Greg and Leanna Grater. Both have been District 3 Directors, District 3 Persons of the Year, and USA Wrestling-Kansas Persons of the Year. They have devoted their lives to serving others, and have always been key players in the Kansas Kids State Wrestling Tournament every year in Topeka. Their sons have been successful wrestlers from youth to collegiate.

Greg, who was a self-employed farmer, had worked as a welder. He attended Kansas State University from 1969-72. He refereed wrestling, served as a club director, a club coach, and in various state offices.

Leanna, who is an administrative assistant at Woods & Durham for 18 years, attended Hutchinson Community College from 1977-78. Leanna was a wrestlerette at Clay Center Community High School, and she has been a supporter of wrestling at all levels of wrestling. She has worked hard for the local club wrestling, she has been key in the running of the Kids State Wrestling tournament, and has been active for Team Kansas in freestyle/Greco-roman.

The Graters work has benefited Kansas wrestling in many ways and on many levels.

Sadly, Greg passed away on March 2, 2006.
