College Wrestler of the Year - 2006

Wichita’s Jacob Klein had an illustrious wrestling career at both the scholastic and collegiate level. After winning three high school titles, Klein went on to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and won two NCAA Div. I All-American honors for the Cornhuskers.

In his collegiate career, Klein was 94-33, placing seventh as senior at 174 pounds. Klein was a four-time NCAA Div. I national qualifier. As a senior, he was second in the Big 12 championships, was a Big 12 Wrestler of the Week, was ranked in the top six all year, and helped lead Nebraska to a third-place finish at the National Duals.

Klein was a two-year captain and named Husker Power Lifter of the Year in 2003. Three times he was named the Most Dedicated Wrestler award winner, and in 2002 he was named the Redshirt of the Year. Klein competed at 165 and 174 for the Huskers.

At Wichita-Kapaun Mt. Carmel High School, Klein was a three-time state champion and placed third at the Senior High School nationals. He was also an honorable mention defensive end on the football field, and was a football and wrestling team captain.

He currently is continuing to train and is coaching on the Nebraska wrestling staff. He is majoring in Communications at Nebraska.
