ERIC METHVIN

Coach Eric Methvin of Chanute High School has been a tremendous contributor to the wrestling community in Oklahoma and Kansas for many years. After earning an Oklahoma State High School Runner-up finish in 1975, the Claremore, Oklahoma High School graduate wrestled for fellow KWCA Hall of Fame inductee Coach Steve Lampe at Colby Community College in Colby, Kansas.

In 1980, Coach Methvin began his high school coaching career. He coached two years as an assistant at Pryor, Oklahoma before becoming the head coach at Cushing, Oklahoma for four years. While at Cushing High School, Coach Methvin compiled a 38 and 24 dual record, coached one State Champion, had eleven State Placers, and two Top Ten Team finishes.

From Cushing it was on to Chanute, Kansas where Coach Methvin spent sixteen years as coach. At Chanute he coached eight State Champions, thirty-three additional State Placers, seven Top Ten Team finishes, 103 State Qualifiers, Six Team League Titles, two Regional Championships, and a Third Place Team finish in 1996. Coach Methvin furthered the efforts to make Chanute a Southeast Kansas wrestling power by establishing a USA Wrestling organization in Chanute, founding and being actively involved in the Chanute Wrestling Club from 1987 until 2006. In addition, Coach Methvin was named the Kansas Wrestling Officials – 1999, 4A Coach of the Year Sportsmanship Recipient. Currently, Coach Methvin resides in Chanute and serves as the Assistant Principal and Athletic Director at Chanute High School.
