Help for a Kansas Wrestling Legend

Help for a Kansas Wrestling Legend - 08/06/07 01:58 PM

For many who don’t know I have been advocating for some time for the inclusion into the Kansas Wrestling Hall of Fame of Skip Harrington. Skip was instrumental in the development of Kids Wrestling in the state of Kansas and specifically was responsible for starting the first Freestyle Greco clubs in the state. As we all know, a wife is instrumental in the development of any program or club and is there along the entire journey, thankfully many across the state of Kansas have come to know Skip, Judy and the rest of the Harrington family.

Recently Judy was diagnosed with cancer and is presently at St. Francis Hospital in Wichita in room 8132, she has been given a short time to live and as we can all imagine there are tremendous difficulties for the family. One of those difficulties is the financial obligation of unexpected medical costs and an upcoming funeral. A fund has been established at the Commerce Bank to assist this family with these expenses. You can contribute at:

The Commerce Bank
For / The Harrington Fund
407 Spring Creek Drive
Derby Kansas 67037

This family and Judy have given a great deal to the Kansas Wrestling family and Wrestling family across the country. May we all keep the family in our prayers and thoughts and if able to assist in the expenses incurred I know the family would be grateful.

Judy's kidneys has shut down and it won't be long. I have become even more aware at how just reading a post like this can have an impact on the family. They are blessed knowing that people know. To be in this room and hear stories about John Smith, (one of her sons, Eddie Harrington's former practice partner) others at OSU and numerous other great wrestlers and coaches is something special. It has also been great hearing about Skip's wrestling open tournaments and defeating top notch college wrestlers up into his mid 40's and also playing football at KSU as a 140 pound guard before being told by the wrestling coach that he had to quit in order to maintain his wrestling scholarship. This family has given so much to the sport of wrestling, not just in Kansas but across the country. I know the family appreciates the prayers, and thanks to the many wrestlers, friends, family and coaches that have contacted the family in one way or another.
