Re: Kansas Teams - Park Hill Duals - 12/02/08 04:29 PM

In talking with Will Cokely, we are in dire need of kids in the following weight classes:

50, 55, 60, 65, 70, 125, 130, 160

Keep in mind that in order to field a 50-55-60 lb kid, we, as well as the other teams, will need to put some younger kids out there, so even if you have a 9 or 10 yr old kid, put him in, as he'll be wrestling other kids similar in age.

Re: Kansas Teams - Park Hill Duals - 12/02/08 05:35 PM

I would look to the Boo's school kids or Mason Turner of Chanute as they were several of the KS placers at CK kickoff in those lower weights. As far as bigger kids maybe Jared Johnson, Aaron Puckett, Nick Meck, Riley Denney, Nathan Stanley, Blasevic, Andy Jewell. Just some thoughts.

Does anyone have an idea as to how many teams there have been the the past for this event.

Re: Kansas Teams - Park Hill Duals - 12/06/08 12:32 AM

In talking with Will today, we still need some 50, 55, 60, 65, and 150 and 160 lb kids.

Age does not matter. 5 matches minimum against good competition. Last year, Iowa, OK, Missouri, Kansas, among others all had teams. Good competition in a team environment. Get to know, and be teammates with, some of the best Kansas has to offer. I believe Will was trying to put together at least 2 and possibly 3 teams.

Will has to know if you want to be a part of it by Monday morning. If you want to make a weekend of it, you can wrestle the Park Hill split session open tourney the day before, on Saturday.

Re: Kansas Teams - Park Hill Duals - 12/10/08 02:37 PM

Will, in a dual situation isn't it extremely to fill these spots? As I remember its 6 points for an empty spot but only 3 points if a wrestler get teched. So anything is better than nothing. Is that right?
Posted By: shawk95

Re: Kansas Teams - Park Hill Duals - 12/10/08 03:23 PM

What age groups are the kids that typically wrestle in the 80-85 lbs range?
Posted By: Cokeley

Re: Kansas Teams - Park Hill Duals - 12/10/08 05:00 PM

It is 5 points for a tech but filling a spot means someone is getting a match. Win or lose, mat time is a good thing!

80-85 10-14years of age. The 10 year old is going to, most likely, lose but it is still great experience to be on a team.

Re: Kansas Teams - Park Hill Duals - 12/10/08 08:37 PM

Will, so I don't misunderstand weigh ins, Once we weigh in friday evening for the split session tournament does that count for duals as well. Or do we have to weigh in sunday morning as well?
Posted By: jason keck

Re: Kansas Teams - Park Hill Duals - 12/11/08 04:27 PM

Jon,

That is correct. If a wrestler is competing in the Park Hill Split Session on Saturday and weighs in on Friday night at scratch weight then he does not need to weigh-in again Sunday for the duals.

If a wrestler does not attend the Park Hill Split Session tournament and does not make scratch weight at the weight he/she is going to wrestle at the duals then that wrestler will need to weigh in on Saturday night from 5:00-6:30pm or Sunday morning from 7:30-8:30am and will receive 1lb. allowance.

Re: Kansas Teams - Park Hill Duals - 12/15/08 02:45 AM

A great experience for the Kansas kids. A special thanks to Will for his putting together the teams. Thanks to the Eck's for bringing up kids from down south. To the guys from Greater Gold and out west, nice to see you. Hope you all had a safe drive back. And another thanks to Eric, Travis and Shawn for coaching the teams. Great competition and good showing by the Kansas kids.

Finally, great job to the Park Hill people for a well ran day.

If you have a middle school age wrestler, this should be on your schedule for next year.

Re: Kansas Teams - Park Hill Duals - 12/15/08 01:52 PM

There are a few groups I want to address in this so here it goes....

1. Will, THANK YOU SO MUCH! This was a great event and we all appreciate the time and effort you put in to coordinate this. Once again, you show up (sicker than a dog), get it organized for KS, provide the kids of KS a great opportunity (his boys weren't even competing), and for what.....to help KS wrestlers get better and get experience. Thanks so much!

2. John Johnson, it was a pleasure to get the opportunity to coach these kids. We had a great time and the competition was outstanding. I would like to thank the parents of the kids on KS Tm 3 (the MULES!) for letting me have the opportunity work with your kids. They are great kids and really worked hard.

3. Park Hill.....Great tournament, well ran and first class. Thanks for giving everyone the chance to get this kind of competition.

4. John Trowbridge, thanks for helping with the coaching. Had a lot of fun and hopefully we can do it again next year!

Totally agree with John, this is defintiley a tournament you want to put on your list.

WOW, what a great time and great wrestling! Got the pleasure of coaching alot of great kids from all over. The kid got a few matches in and got to see some intense matches. Plus got to see what the future holds for him in the later years of his wrestling career. All around great experence thanks to everyone who helped. And thanks to Will for getting it together.

Re: Kansas Teams - Park Hill Duals - 12/15/08 04:59 PM

Thanks to Will for putting it together. Thanks to the coaches as well. It was a nice break to have someone else doing the coaching.

We need to start thinking about Middle School National Duals in Iowa in April. If you kid wants to be a part of it, keep in touch with the announcements that will appear on this forum.

There was still some Kansas kids missing from our teams that really need to be helping Team Kansas. I am not talking about the kids that wrestled for Team Central (which was a very impressive team), as that is their club team.

The Kansas kids that wrestled for Team Central will help the Middle School National team that Kansas will send to Iowa. But it will be very disappointing if we don't have ALL OF Kansas' best wrestlers going to Iowa to represent Kansas. If you are one of them, put it on your calendar. April 17-19, 2009. Last year Will put together 3 teams, Jayhawks, Wildcats, and Rattlers.

Re: Kansas Teams - Park Hill Duals - 12/16/08 03:44 AM

One of the best duals I have ever saw at any level between team Oklahoma and Team Central. Back and forth the whole way through. Some outstanding wrestling with the entire gymnasium watching.

Re: Kansas Teams - Park Hill Duals - 12/16/08 04:49 PM

you could sure tell the ref was for team Central in that one. there was at least 4 bad calls in different matches. I would not want to win that way!

Re: Kansas Teams - Park Hill Duals - 12/16/08 10:49 PM

Was wondering where I might find results for this tourney, and or the Park Hill tourney the day before?
Thanks!

Re: Kansas Teams - Park Hill Duals - 12/16/08 11:04 PM

Lets be fair, Park Hill is the employer for those officials! smile Jason would never want to win that way. The official was probably just tired!

Jason Keck does a great job with his club and setting up Team Central's individual and dual event. Then in the spring they host an awesome Freestyle Dual event for HS wrestlers. On top of that they organize bus trips to Bighorn Nationals and Dixie Nationals every year. Yea, they raid Kansas and take a few of our good kids but they return for HS action. Hats off to Jason, Bill Erneste, Ron DiBlasi and all of the Team Central and Park Hill parents for giving their time.

While handing out the thanks I want to thank Doug Eck, Dal Eck, Dan Gentzler, Matt Collins, Eric Johnson, Kevin Perez, Loren Armstrong, Shawn Budke, Travis Phippen, Eric Akin, Tony Purler and all of the other supporters and parents who arranged to have their kids or club's wrestlers involved. You guys gave your time and money to coach and transport these kids, hats off to you.

Each year I hear how much fun the kids have and how eye opening the competition is so I want to keep this tradition alive.

Happy Holidays!
