2014 Heartland USA Elementary National Duals - 02/24/14 03:52 PM

Don't forget to sign up, through Track Wrestling, for the qualifying tournament to be held this Sunday March 2nd. The deadline is 6pm Saturday March 1st.

The qualifier is being held together with the 6 and under State tournament at the Salina Bi-Centennial Center. Weigh in times and locations are posted on the talk forum.

The dates for the Nationals Duals is April 11, 12 & 13 at the Mid America Center in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Team Kansas will again be taking 4 teams to this event.

Weigh ins are Friday April 11th at 5pm - this is the only weigh in and you have to make weight just once. Team pool wrestling is Saturday April 12th and Team bracket wrestling is Sunday April 13th.

I will post more details as soon as I have our hotel reserved, etc

Should we bring paperwork with that day in case our kids make the team, and if we should what would we need to bring. Thanks.

Re: 2014 Heartland USA Elementary National Duals - 02/24/14 08:44 PM

I will have copies to hand out, of the paperwork required - a current grade card, insurance card and a copy of the wrestlers birth certificate will also be needed before we leave for the duals.

In years past, we only had about 10 days to get all the paperwork, etc done.

I am still working on some details, but it looks like the cost is going to be $225.00. I'd prefer that all paperwork and payment be sent to me together.

Re: 2014 Heartland USA Elementary National Duals - 02/25/14 01:55 PM

There will be a seeding meeting Sunday morning at 7:30 at the Salina Bicentennial Center.

We would like 2 or 3 representatives from all 4 districts to be at this meeting.

We've got to have more kids in Kansas that want to represent their state. Last year people complained about who was and was not selected. Now the kids have a way to earn their way in. Pass the word on to your clubs so we can have 4 solid teams.

We WILL wrestle for 5th and 6th place at this tournament.

We will pick the alternates from the interested wrestlers who do place in the top 4, starting with those who finish 5th and 6th.
We are allowed 3 alternates per team.

The teams will be staying at the Holiday Inn Express at 2610 Abbott Plaza Omaha, NE. I am working on a block of rooms next door at the Candlewood Suites for the parents.

This was a great time for my son and the team he was on. Not only did it make him a better wrestler,it gave him the 1st real taste of what it meant to be a team.He will be pushing to get on the middle school team this year.

Re: 2014 Heartland USA Elementary National Duals - 03/03/14 07:37 PM

Congratulations to all the wrestlers who competed in the Elementary State National Duals qualifying tournamment.

The top 4 finishers in each weight will represent Team Kansas at the National Team Duals in Council Bluffs, Iowa on April 11th, 12th and 13th.

Right now, I need to know what 5th and 6th place finishers want to go as alternates. Please email me - dal@matteck.com - or PM me here.

The alternates normally get assigned to one of the 2 alternate teams. Those teams wrestle just like all the rest do. They are put in one of the pools for Saturday wrestling and then advance to one of the brackets for Sunday wrestling. In previous years, alternates have typically got 5-7 matches on those alternate teams.

We will use the same singlet design as the Middle School. I'd like some input as to which one of the 5 you LEAST LIKE. Once we figure that out, we will start with Team 1 and vote for their favorite - and so on down the line.

Also, if there happens to be an error on Track Wrestling, please let me know.

I will be posting additional information in the next few days.

Re: 2014 Heartland USA Elementary National Duals - 03/04/14 01:46 AM

Curtis Rylant was actually at 105 on the first ever team as he filled in for Ben Ewing. I can tell you that this was an amazing experience! That first group of kids that went did something really great as it has just continued to grow over the years. There was only one team (a fine group of boys however) and now there are 4 full teams!! The teams make a bond that will stay with then forever. Curtis went on to go again the next year and then his little brother has went also! I continue to hear both of my boys state "I know him, he was on my dual team" COOL!!I am sad to say our years of elementary duals are over. I encourage any one who loves wresting NEEDS to go! Might I add that Dal does an amazing job organizing and leading the teams and the coaches have always been great!!! Good luck Kansas!!!

Re: 2014 Heartland USA Elementary National Duals - 03/06/14 02:00 PM

Here is the hotel information - the dates are April 11th and 12th for room reservations

The Teams are staying at the Holiday Inn Express by the airport. The address is 2510 Abbott Plaza - Carter Lake, Iowa. If your wrestler is going to stay with you, it is no problem, but I need to know at some point.

For the parents, I have a block of 40 rooms across the street at the Candlewood Suites - 2601 Abbott Plaza. The phone number is 402-342-2500 - The block is under Kansas Wrestling Parents and the rate for a room with 2 queen beds is $89.99 per night plus tax.

Dal,

Would you prefer we stay at the Candlewood Suites, versus staying at the Holiday Inn. My son will stay with other wrestlers, not us. We have a room for us at the holiday inn, but can change to the other hotel if that is what you prefer.

Re: 2014 Heartland USA Elementary National Duals - 03/10/14 01:33 PM

For those of you who are not familiar with this event, the following is some more info

The $225 cost for this event covers the Team Kansas singlet, shorts and t-shirt. It also includes transportation to and from Topeka, hotel rooms and Saturday Night pizza for the teams. We will provide water for all wrestlers thru out the event. On Friday night after the weigh in, we normally eat as a team at one of the area buffets. The wrestlers will have to pay for this meal. I am still working on getting us a good deal and will provide this info once arranged. Our team hotel, Holiday Inn Express, is aware that we need to be able to feed the wrestlers and coaches in a timely manner Saturday and Sunday morning. They will have a good breakfast for the wrestlers both days.

We will meet on April 11th at the Topeka Capital Plaza Hotel at around 10 am. We will pass out the Team Kansas gear and load up in the vans to leave by around noon. Once in Omaha/Council Bluffs, we will get checked in to the team hotel. Weigh ins are at 5pm and I want be one of the first teams to weigh in.

I realize this meeting place is not convenient for everyone. If this is out of the way for you, it is okay to meet us in Omaha. However, we must weigh in as a team, so you will need to be at the Mid America Center in Council Bluffs before 5pm.

I will assign the wrestlers to rooms and vans. They will be required to stay in their assigned rooms and vans unless a change is approved by me. I need to know where all wrestlers are at all times. If your wrestler has a rooming preference, email me and I will do my best to get your wrestler together with his buddies.

If your wrestler IS NOT going to be staying with the teams, or NOT RIDING with the teams, please let me know.

I will have Team Kansas t-shirts available for sale for the parents starting Friday after weigh ins and dinner.

Re: 2014 Heartland USA Elementary National Duals - 03/27/14 03:30 PM

It's not looking promising for a buffet to eat at, for the Teams Friday, after weigh in.

The buffet we usually eat at is closed and Golden Corral wants too much money per kid. There are some Chines Buffets, but I don't think everyone likes that type food. I may be able to set something up with Cici'S Pizza - probably not a good option since we provide pizza Saturday night for everyone.

It looks like we will end up having to eat individually - or each team van can vote where they want to go.

If anyone has an idea, let me know

We have an opportunity to take a complete 5th team to the duals.

The dual event coordinator called and asked if we could take our 12 alternates, find wrestlers for the 5 weights we don't have filled and form a 5th team.

I would like to do this, but I will need everyones help.

We need the following weights filled - 85,95,120,140,160

Even if we have to wrestle one or two short, I think we should do it.

We are meeting this Friday at the Topeka Capitol Plaza Hotel between 10 and 10:30 to pass out gear and load up in the team vans for the trip to Council Bluufs/Omaha.

I want to leave no later than 12 noon so we can get checked in to the hotel BEFORE we weigh in at 5:00 pm.

If you are not meeting and riding with the teams, please make sure you have your wrestler at the Mid America Center in Council Bluffs no later than 4:45.

After weigh ins, we will decide where to eat. The buffet that we normally eat at is closed and I could not find another reasonable option. Each van will decide where to go eat.

I will post a list of wrestlers that are not riding with the team. If there are any changes to that list, please let me know.

Re: 2014 Heartland USA Elementary National Duals - 04/07/14 04:18 PM

We are meeting this Friday at the Topeka Capitol Plaza Hotel between 10 and 10:30 to pass out gear and load up in the team vans for the trip to Council Bluufs/Omaha.

I want to leave no later than 12 noon so we can get checked in to the hotel BEFORE we weigh in at 5:00 pm.

If you are not meeting and riding with the teams, please make sure you have your wrestler at the Mid America Center in Council Bluffs no later than 4:45.

I will hand out the gear to those who do not ride with the teams after we check in the hotel, if there is time before weigh ins. If not, then after weigh ins.

I will have t-shirts for sale at the hotel after we weigh in and eat. I need to get all the coaches their t-shirts first.

After weigh ins, we will decide where to eat. The buffet that we normally eat at is closed and I could not find another reasonable option. Each van will decide where to go eat.

I will post a list of wrestlers that are not riding with the team. If there are any changes to that list, please let me know.

Re: 2014 Heartland USA Elementary National Duals - 04/10/14 12:58 PM

We have our 140 so everything is set. Thanks to all who helped fill the 5th team.

I'll see those of you who are meeting in Topeka tomorrow morning - the rest I'll see at the hotel prior to weigh in. If at all possible, I'd like to get everyone checked in to the hotel before weigh in.

After weigh in and dinner, we will have a team meeting at 8pm in the Team hotel. All wrestlers need to be there.

Coaches, get with me in Topeka for your t-shirts, or at the hotel. I should have your coaches bands at the hotel after weigh ins.

We have to provide 1 table worker per dual - one of the coaches can do this, or a parent can do it. If a parent does it, they still have to pay to get in, but there is a different arm band required. It would be nice if a couple parents per team could help out with this. I'll leave all that up to each team to decide.

Parents, we will have t-shirts for sale at the parents hotel starting Friday evening. Shannon Alderman will be handling this. They are $15 each. I do have some smaller kids sizes also

Because of the late request for us to fill the 5th team, we had to ship singlets for Team 5 in the following weights - 85,95,120,140,160 -to the Team hotel. Wrestlers at those weight will get their gear at the Team Hotel after weigh in
