Re: All-Class Dual Teams! - 02/26/13 06:57 PM

Last year we had to forfeit the 98 pound class on both teams!

We have secured one wrestler at that weight already and need one more to join us at that weight. You get a two pound allowance so are there any tough 100 pound high school wrestlers out there?

Chief, you might want to contact Jeff Smith of Derby about his son Tanner for a 100 pounder

I agree! Also, the hardware is substantial! We even couldn't fit all the trophies in our trailer! The individual champs got three foot ones and the 1st place team trophy was 6 feet!

Well I hope that Ben Becker at least gets an invitation as an alternate as he was a state champion this year and lost to Williams last year in the finals by one point but for some reason unbeknownst to me is apparently under appreciated and in my opinion under ranked on the all class list. And I don't want to get into that again so no nasty PMS please.

X we can agree to disagree on this i still take thibault over becker in a close match probably overtime who knows it could be reversed. The only thing i have to go on is Alex handled ortiz 5 to 1 at carroll and of course Ben beat ortiz in overtime. Alex only loss was in 2nd overtime to Gehring also a fine wrestler. Who really knows i do think after blackwell it's open to question definitely no more than 1 point difference between alex, becker and gehring. All would represent kansas well and are shut down defensive wrestlers with offense when they need it.

I hear you and after this I think I am done with it (I hope, we'll see) and I have done what I can to promote my pick. Becker, Thibault and Gehring are close for sure and you couldn't go wrong with either one. I just feel that Ben never got a chance to wrestle them and prove he could beat them so its not fair to just have them above him, especially when he won state this year and got second last year losing to Williams by one. Becker did not lose to a Kansas wrestler this year so why is he punished?
I hear you about Thibault beating Ortiz and so did Gehring. But they both beat a sophomore with a high growth curve in December. Ben had to beat him in the state finals after he had been through a tough NW schedule, a season of great coaching, the City League tournament, Regional, and three matches at State. BIG DIFFERENCE. Also, I was working the table at the match and as far as I am concerned, Becker "handled" Ortiz. He took him down three times on the edge but not once got the call. All three would have been takedowns in college with continuation. Plus the only reason it went into overtime is because of a penalty point on what I believe were some junk ass calls. Becker rode him for an entire period as well. Of course I know Prichard might disagree, and I don't want to take anything away from Ortiz or disrespect him because he wrestled a heck of a match.
I do have the utmost respect for Chief though and I do respect Chief's right to pick who he wants because it is his team. I know Chief has respect for Becker and digs him like me because we talked at state. Like I said, I would just hope that Becker at least got an invite as an alternate because he sure has earned it.
More importantly though, let me state that Chief is a great thing for Kansas wrestling and I greatly appreciate all of his efforts to promote and support Kansas wrestling and increase the opportunities that Kansas wrestlers have to wrestle and improve.

Chief I sure would like to see a round robin between williams, ochs and puckett. It's too bad a 41-0 Puckett is not in the mix who knows what would happen if he wrestled williams or ochs. That being said will williams and ochs wrestle each other? If so it should be a great one.

Re: All-Class Dual Teams! - 03/04/13 12:27 PM

IMO this is the strongest team that we have taken to Denver!!!

I spoke to the tournament director yesterday and he said the competition will be stiff this year. There is one team with three 3X state champions. I just said we are bringing another good team...

I didn't mention that our combined record on one team is 501-7! With NINE undefeated wrestlers on our total roster and TWENTY state champions. (1-4X and 8-2X champs!) We are 2X Defending Team Champions.

This is going to be fun.... smile

Re: All-Class Dual Teams! - 03/04/13 04:17 PM

I plan to finalize the rosters TODAY! I need to have the shirts printed with the rosters on the back.

If the current invitations decline, I will fill the rosters with wrestlers that want in, regardless of ranking!!!

Re: All-Class Dual Teams! - 03/05/13 04:05 AM

X, Ortiz wrestle the match as instructed. Keep it close and get 1 takedown. Any fault in Ortiz is my fault. Beckner Gerhring and Thibualt are all great champions. Ortiz had a great state tournament, one I'm very proud of. I'm lucky enough to have him for 2 more years. Coach Prichard.

We are going to take teams to the RMN duals gain this year. We are going to try to fill 3 teams like last year. We would really like to knock Kansas off but it is going to take our best to get that job done. Here is a link to the tournament and duals info. http://www.rockymountainnation...-mountain-nationals/ I will try to get tshirts sponsored for the teams. Weight classes are high school weights plus 98 lb.

Re: All-Class Dual Teams! - 03/11/13 11:52 PM

I just talked to the NE coach. They are bringing 5 teams. In order to give them the best chance to beat us, their first team is a combined team from NE, CO and WY.

We will need our best effort to win again.

We can take great pride that we are all KANSAS!

to keep it in perspective we have the kids that were on our msd team the last few years and added garret krohn. our team is far from the best from all 3 states combined. yes you have a target on your back. all winners do, be proud of that. last years dual was a barn burner and i expect no less this year. the 132 bracket in the tournament has colton adams (3xsc), bryce meredith(3xsc), pt garcia(2xsc), jacob rubio (2x sc), joseph hayek (sc@138) and your kansas studs. cant get much better than that with all of the other state placers. it will be a great weekend.

To be clear, 40% of your first dual team is not Nebraska. If it was me, I would enter that team in the duals as a Tri-State team. I am surprised that the host state is not organized enough to keep their in-state guys.

The challenge will be a great time! See you guys on Friday.

Kough is ok. His knee is bugging him and we were up a lot so rested him. The blue team is struggling with a knee injury to Gentzler and Dulgarian is on a throwing up frenzy. We are hoping to have them back for the finals!

Those type of duals are tough but more exciting. I think the guys on both teams benefit more from the close matches rather than the blow outs. Great job wrestlers, coaches and organizers.
