I couldn't think of any off the top of my head.... I'm more familiar with the lighter weights as I was a light weight in H.S. and got used to the names.

Re: 3-2-1a standouts - 11/27/05 01:48 AM

i was just wondering how can smull be a standout when he has never placed but is a senior?

Re: 3-2-1a standouts - 11/27/05 02:47 PM

....a little history...was a state qualifier his freshman year, the only freshman qualifier at 145 that year that had Johnson, Pyle, etc; battled the flu, ended up 1-2 that year in 2003 and finished 30-11 as a freshmen at 145. ranked #27 in the top freshman and sophomores in the country 2004 by USA wrestling magizine; lost at regionals battling a back injury, when regionals had 5 of the 6 top ranked wrestlers at noton that year. Smull was ranked 5th at the time. he has beat both Jonas, and Bailes, earlier in thier careers (freestyle), defeated 2 colorado state champs last year in december and january, before ending his season at the hays senior classic in a season ending knee injury in the semis, finished 21-3. he has had some bad luck in the past, broken jaw freshmen year in football, never played, but in junior and senior year has had back to back 1000+ yard seasons in the fullback position, torn LCL last year in january, suffered a severly sprained foot in the smithcenter loss in the first quarter, perhaps the difference in the game. but thats okay. adversity has made him better, made him tougher. made him stronger. if you over look him thats okay, he prefers it that way. he will be silent and do the talking on the mat or on the field. he is extremely goal oriented, the goal; the gold in february. we shall see, but i have no doubts. if you doubt his ability just ask some of the NWKL coaches in the league.

Re: 3-2-1a standouts - 11/30/05 07:42 AM

I am going to go out on a limb here. I am going to put a hevy on the board i wrestled this kid last year and he was one of my tougfhest matches that I won. He diddn't place last year but when u think about it all 6 placers were seniors last year. I know he has grown and if his wrestling skills have grown too he should/will be a force so I will put Duane Zlatnik up there from Rossville quite possibly my favorite.

Zlatnik was somewhere around 230 last year. Now that little freshman is a very big, very strong sophmore.

Racette, and Erwin all good 215 lbers Foster and Wilger are the only two returning placers above 189 and Foster i am guessing will be wrestling 215 and i saw in the football roster wilger was 260 so i am guessing he will be 275. what bout all these guys?

Is Smull healthy now? As a fan in the NWKL, I can tell you that Smull is a State Placer this year and could win it if he avoids the injuries that have plagued his past.

I'd look for Madden to be a 4 timer...

Smull quality Wrestler. He has had a tough time getting to where he is. When he gets in a dogfight, i'm betting on him. Is his brother Gavin Smull, or is there any relation? He is a young wrestler that may do some damage this year.

Wilger from St. Francis is going to be a force. Overlook him, and he'll dominate. He is a big quick fella.
