Kauffman-Brand Open - 11/03/10 05:30 PM
I am hearing the Kauffman-Brand Open on 11/20 will be bigger than ever due to MU not hosting the Missouri open the same weekend. The Kauffman-Brand has always been one of the largest opens and some are saying 800 wrestlers may compete. I do know that UNO is adding mats in the new building adjoining the field house. Should be a lot of good wrestling and a long day and night!

It was crowded like that three years ago and we left at midnight. The wrestling was great so it was worth it.

What Kansas teams will be at the Kaufman Brand next week?
How about wrestlers from Kansas on non-Kansas teams who will be competing?

Fort Hays State will be there. I'm not sure if the whole team is coming, but usually they do.

All amateur brackets are over 32, so 64 man brackets with a lot of byes. I was told maybe 1 or 2 elite brackets are over 32.

I don't think the brackets are posted yet. They will be up on the website sometime in the morning and then updated throughout the day tomorrow.
Wrestling started at 9. No brackets up yet? Just heard from Perry Madl that all of the OU guys are in the Elite brackets.

Riding time made it 8-1, right?

Those are the right ones. Parker Madl was set to wrestle Nick Flynn but that changed at 157. They are live streaming UNO matches and some others. Also a thread on themat.com.
Nick Flynn just won his first match!

Labette Still alive in the Amateur Division at 125,133, 149, 174, HWT. Walker Clarke is still alive in the 197 Elite Division. It looks like a few of the heavy hitters didn't make the trip.

It was a great day of wrestling. Lots of Kansas kids were fighting with the top kids from some of the top programs in the country. If you ever have the chance to come up and watch this tournament, you will not be let down.
133/Amateur - Trent Cox - 6th place
285/Elite - Joe Bach - 5th place
Nice work Andy and thanks for the explanation. Good post.

Re: Kauffman-Brand Open - 11/24/10 11:47 AM
Andy,
Actually if you follow the lead of my friends and myself over the years your accomplishment will be embellished and by the last time you tell the story your victory will have been for the NCAA D-1 title which you would have won by a first period fall as an 18 year freshman against a fifth year Iowa senior!
As we get older our memories fade but our exploits grow!

Andy,
First, back in HS, you were suppose to be on your back 'flopping like a June bug' at the Metro Classic (didn't happen - you won!). Now you have gone on to beat a future 3 time national D-1 Champ!
The Sky is the limit for Mr. Hurla!
Hurla for President! He can fix this messed up economy!
