I see that there is an open wrestling night in eastern kansas but not here in the wichita area that I have heard of. All I have heard about are all these camps that cost 50 bucks per session per kid. would it not be awesome to get this started in the wichita area. For one this would be great mat time for the kids and referees looking to get started. I am fairly new to kids wrestling but surely someone out there would be able to get something like this started.

Derby also is offering open gyms for those interested. High School and Middle School kids are welcome at the Middle School Tuesday & Wednesday 6-7. Practice for the younger kids wishing to work on agility(plyometrics) and strength building is being held right now on Sunday 4-5ish and Wednesdays 6-7ish. *these days and times will be changing soon (when jr football is over). In both cases the only requirement is that the wrestler have his or her usa wresting card to participate. Any questions send me a pm.

I believe bockman is referring to the fact that the East Kansas club actually runs full officiated and scored wrestling matches on their league nights. Every Wednesday is run like a Mini-round robin tournament.

No weekend traveling.
No long Saturdays in a gym.

Dates: Oct. 15, 22, 29 . . . Nov. 5
Location: St. James Academy
Entry Fee: $10
USAW Folk-Style Rules
USAW Card required

Schedule
Weigh-ins and Registration: 6pm - 6:30pm
Weekly Technique and Drills Presentation: 6:30
Matches begin: approximately 7pm

Divisions: All levels High School and Kids
Weight Classes and Pairings: Wrestlers matched up with-in reasonable weight and according to level.

Typical Event Operation
6pm to 6:30 wrestlers will register and weigh-in. At 6:30 coaches and wrestlers will watch a brief technique presentation from different featured top-level instructors. During the presentation pairings officials will match wrestlers according to level and weight. Referees will start matches at approximately 7pm.

Too early to start refed matches.....Too many kids doing football.....Yes there are open gyms for those not playing football... and we're loving it!!!! Remember don't burn them out early, they'll have plenty of opportunities to wrestle in all the tournies they want.

im thinking that most of the kids that would show up for this would be the diehard kids that are probably not playing football but wrestling almost year around already. then you take a few kids that want to be good wrestlers and throw them in there a few times its good for them to get a wake up call and start thinking about the season ahead. just a thought. i would not do it every week but i would do it a few times. it could be just a couple weeks before the season.

You also have the kids who are getting ready for the Kickoff in a few weeks. It's a great way to see what you need to work on. Practice is great, but a live match really shows you. I know if we were in KS right now, Connor would be going. We've been to three tournaments here, and he's come up against some good competition, I'm sure some of these kids will be in Tulsa too. From what we have heard, our season will be starting in the beginning of November. That's almost a full two months before Kansas. Granted, Connor is one of those die-hard, year round wrestlers, but so are many of his buddies back in KS. In my opinion, having something like the League Night will only enhance this sport in KS.
