What are the tough tournaments of the SW Kansas area? See some of those kids we don't see until state or Park City. Venture outside our comfort zones little bit

Derby, Salina, Valley Center, Maize. Just my thoughts, there are other great tournaments in the area as well.

When did Derby, Salina, Valley Center and Maize become part of SW Kansas?

Generally, Derby, Valley Center and Maize are considered part of South Central Kansas.

If I were looking for tournaments in Southwest Kansas I would look to Dodge City, Garden City, Ulysses, and Scott City.

Greater Gold out of garden city has a lot of tough kids. From what I have seen they are tough kids with good coaching. I have not been to SW kansas tournaments. My sons have wrestled some of them at salina & hutch.

I could not even tell you how long it has been since Ulysses has hosted a tourny and it has been 3 or 4 years since Dodge City last hosted something that is not a state qualifying event. There are lots of good wrestlers in sw kansas but I dont think we have a mark your calendar type of tourny so many sw kansas kids leave home in the wee hours of the morning to travel east in search of the tough tournaments

well dagwood i almost feel sorry for you but you chose to live there and now its up to you and all the coaches and clubs to make that difference everyone talks about and get those tournaments started. its not easy but hey come on wrestling is a tight community and im sure with the likes of you and nix the greater gold of garden city is a first class club surely you all can get some of them started. if not guess we will keep seeing you get up in the wee hours of the morning and driving to wichita area where all the competition is anyways. so now you know how i feel when i miss out on all my hunting time. by the time i get to start hunting again after both my boys are done wrestling i will be to old and weak to carry my gun in the field. so we will see you today in derby as well.

It's not SW, but you should definitely go to Salina. Hays, while also not SW, is usually the same day as Park City, but it is a good tournament to catch the west half kids.

It's too bad Hays has too been same day as Park City. This could the same caliber tourny as Salina and Park City. If you want to see some tough wrestlers from Southwest Kansas before state Hays would be the place to go. This is a well ran tournament in a great facility.

let's pretend all sw tournaments are tough, so all you central and eastern people drive out here. the best reason i can think for this idea is so me and little nix can sleep in instead of driving 4 hours to wichita and surrounding towns, getting our but kicked then driving another 4 hours back home.

yep the best idea i have had in a long while. lol

Nix, man you have to try and tell the coaches and dads of your kids opponent that you will take them pheasant hunting if they let your kid win.

we might have to try that bockman. hoping to hit haysville and derby tournaments again this year really enjoyed those 2 but want to try a few more this year out that way.

i don't know what age group to bribe yet jeffrey has been 42 to 48 pounds maybe we will split the diff and wrestle 46 if not wrestle up at 49. were still 6 & under.

can't bribe with pheasant hunting i have only made it out once for about an hour. any other ideas?
