It looks like the number of entries is significantly down. Perhaps nearly 40%. Any speculation as to why?

Crappy economy leads to no travel money. I know most of our kids that usually go are skipping cliff keen and hoping Sprawl Nationals will bring in some tough competition.

We would love to attend but the son is wrestling Jr High season. His first year to wrestle with his school's team and he wasn't going to miss it. Wish we could do both(as I stand and shake my fist upward at the KSHSAA gods!!!!) LOL

Tristan is wrestling at Lawrence South Jr High. He's having a good time and really enjoys being part of the team.
If your Jr High team is part of KSHSAA then the kids aren't allowed to wrestle with a kids club or attend club tournaments until after the Jr High season is finished. I've been told if you do the KSHSSA gods in the sky will respond appropriatly...ie lightening and severe storms and such... Lol
Don't mean to jack the thread. GOOD LUCK to all those attending the Cliff Keen Kick Off. We will be rooting for all the kids from Kansas!!!!!!!!!

Hey Cokeley,
Whats your thoughts on why entries to the kick-off are down?

I would say most of the blame can be placed on the current state of the economy. Many families are likely keeping their expenses down by skipping national tournaments and hitting the smaller local tournaments.

I copied this from the roller web site were he says entries are up which goes to show those of us who had to donate plasma, blood and other things I'm not proud of, will do anything for or kids compete.(and most likly get stomped) A sincere thanks for supporting our 13th Annual Cliff Keen Kickoff Classic. We have 1300 wrestlers (up from last year) from 38 states. They are guaranteed 3 matches with the Hard Luck Tournament. Most come to be the best they can be...to grab the greatest awards in the nation.
Coaches; you must pick up your coaches passes only at weigh in. Remember if you did not enter 5 or more wrestlers you will not receive a comp. pass or a free WOW hat (while supplies last). You can purchase a floor pass where general admission tickets are sold. Do not come to coaches pass area.
Special awards for the 1st team World All Star will be awarded during the opening ceremonies only at 3:30 pm on Friday. Be ready to line up at 3:15 pm. All will receive plaques and singlets donated by Cliff Keen and for the overall Wrestlers of the Year (1 per division) will also be awarded an All Star Jacket plus DK Bicycles will donate a bike to each of the 5.
Each placer at the Cliff Keen Kickoff will earn valuable points toward becoming ranked #1 in the Nation!
