Royal beat the previously undefeated Reed. I don't remember the score. It was something like 7-6.

Both acted like gentlemen during and after the match.

Great match young men.

Thank you.

I enjoyed watching it.

In 321A:
Hunsicker of Ellis not qualifying at 125 was an upset as he was a returning state runner-up and had a victory over the regional champion this year.

Avelar of Goodland not qualifying at 112 after taking 3rd at 103 last year at state.

Younger of Ellis not qualifying at 112 after he gave Schumacher of TMP his toughest match until he wrestled Miller of Campus.

Solis of Leon-Blustem not qualifying after taking 6th at state last year and coming into his regional with the number 1 seed at 112.

Stalford of Caney Valley taking third in his regional at 125 after winning a state championship last year.

Moundridge qualifying a kid to wrestle at state for the 1st time in school history.

Samantha Gonzales of Lakin becoming the fourth female wrestler to qualify to state in 321A. She follows Cherrie Volpert of Cherryvale, Chelsea Arnold of Marion, and Kate Hicks of Herington.

In 4A:
Hattabaugh of Andale having to default to 4th in his regional tournament.

Iola and Maize South both qualifying wrestlers for the 1st time in school history.

How close the team race was between Andale and Valley Center. The Hattabaugh injury hurt Andale's team points or else they would've ran away with this title.

Saint James Academy winning its first regional championship and only having a the program in place for a handful of years. They won the tournament by a half of a point. I'm not sure but isn't this year 4 or 5 of the program and the third year they've competed in the KSHSAA state series.

In 5A:
Topeka West did not win a single match in its regional. Only one of their wrestlers had a match go the distance in a 5-3 loss.

In 6A:
Reed of Wichita-Heights getting beat by Royal of Junction City was a bit of an upset considering how dominate Reed has been this season.

Ricky, am I missing something? When I look at the posted regional results I see this:

Place Team Score
1. Andale 185.50
2. Valley Center 180.50

Is this score not correct?

You are right, when I typed that post the regional website read Friday nights scores for some reason. It had Valley Center at 148 points and Andale at like 118. The scores now read 185.5 Andale and 180.5 Valley Center. Either way I thought Andale would have ran away with the tournament had Hattabaugh not been injured. I'll edit my previous post.

First of all, I want everyone to know that excuses in life don't go very far with me but in this case I felt that this deserved a little bit of consideration. I know that the Ellis wrestlers did not have the normal week of preparation before regionals. Half of the team was unable to practice all week due to some skin problems & Younger was also fighting sinus infection. It's sad that this has to happen but that's where mental toughness has to prevail. Mind Over Body!! Good luck to all of the state qualifiers and for those who didn't make it, set your goals and start working towards them NOW!!

Samantha Gonzales is a return state qualifier. She was a state qualifier for 321A her sophmore year (she is a Sr now). She went 1-2, was the first girl to ever win a match at state. She got the front page of the Hays Newspaper that year. She should have been in the Championship round at Regionals, She wrestled the Moundridge kid, Official gave her two count for back points, never awarded her points, then gave the kid a reversal after time was out. She lost the match by one point. It was bad enough the whole crowd BOOd him! Got it all on video, but what do ya do...? She handled it like a true wrestler! Very proud of you Sammie! Good luck to all the Wrestlers!!!

You have to play with the hand you are dealt. The Hattabaugh injury would not have made as big of a difference as you think. Let's say Hattabaugh would have won the bracket. Then the VC kid, who Hattabaugh beat out in the "get in" round, would have qualified, possibly taking 3rd. So Andale would have only gained the difference between 1st and 3rd place points. Noone is going to run away from Valley Center. VC had some matches that they lost that could have very easily gone the other way. The 4A state team race should be a doozy with Andale, VC, CC, and Abilene. Colby has some possible finalists as well as some backside help.

Hattabaugh told me afterward he had re-injured his hip. He showed a lot of courage and determination to come out and win his consy semi against Dillman of VC. If Hattabaugh had not been injured, Dillman probably would have taken third, as doug747 said. But we'll never know and that's the unfortunate part.

My hat's off to Hattabaugh. I wished him well at state but didn't mention that I still hope VC beats them ...

An unfortunate suprise at the regional in holton for Abilene's 160. He was wrestling great and in the first period of the quarterfinals, leading 6-3, Jordon Ward goes for a 4th take down and dislocates his elbow. Unfortunate for him, the Abilene wrestlers, and the Abilene fans. Great support from every one present though. As his brother, I was grateful for the standing ovation he received as he was being taken off on a stretcher.

Sorry to hear that. My son wrestled Jordan at the panther classic this year. He is a very talented wrestler.

Well I'm not wrong when I say she qualified as the fourth female wrestler in 321A. She is now the second multiple qualifier after Chelsea Arnhold of Marion.

Dillman would have wrestled Baird in the final and I'm absolutely sure that would not be an automatic third place for the Valley Center wrestler. Just saying.

And I wasn't saying that either, but just trying to make the point that the Hattabaugh injury would not have made as much of a difference points wise as he was implying that it would have. The Baird boys are tough as nails, no doubt.

Lets presume Hattabaugh wrestles in the semis and beats Torey Taylor. Why are you so sure that Dillman would have beat Taylor when Taylor got the seed over Dillman by having a couple of commons over him?%Pr
