Jimmy May has really done a good job in building this new Baker University program over its first two years. Along with his high school coaching record it shows that Coach May really is very good at building wrestling programs.

Baker wrestling defeats NCAA DII Newman in commanding fashion

WICHITA, Kan. – The Baker University wrestling team remains unblemished in dual meets. Baker defeated Newman University 34-12 on Sunday afternoon to improve to 7-0 on the season and 11-0 all-time.

Jordan McGuire (Edmond, Okla.) won by forfeit to give Baker its first points of the afternoon and from that point forward Baker won five-straight matches to seal the victory.

Phil Henes (Shawnee, Kan.) won by a 6-1 decision over Greg Delk in the 141 lb match and Jarell Price (Las Vegas, Nev.) followed up that performance with a pin against Dakota Hayes in the 149 lb match. Nathan Sommer (Parker, Kan.) had another solid performance taking the 157 lb match via pin over Alex Prine.

Jake Price (Caney, Kan,), Parker Owen (Carrollton, Texas) and Brandon Gebhardt (Sparks, Nev.) all went on to win their respective matches to lift Baker to the commanding victory.

“This was a great performance by our team heading into the NAIA Central Region Championships this weekend in Marshall, Mo.,” said head coach Jimmy May. “I think out guys will be ready to compete against some of the top teams from our area.”

The NAIA Central Region Championships are set to take place February 19th on the campus of Missouri Valley College in Marshall, Mo.
