With the first round of wrestling complete, #TeamTopHat has put all seven of their qualifiers into the finals. They are currently winning the team race by infinity points, thanks to a 21-0 record on the day with 20 pins and 1 TFall. (JK, it was 21 pins.)
It was leaked earlier this week that KSHSAA officials had offered to give all Rural wrestlers byes to the finals, but Rural's plump and suspendered head coach decided to give all other 6A wrestlers the opportunity to wrestle these modern-day Hercules. I'm hearing rumblings from my sources that Governor Brownback has agreed to reinstate the Grand State tournament of old, but rather than taking the top 4 placers from each weight, he's just going to invite all #TeamTopHat wrestlers. He's also changing the name from "Grand State" to "The TopHat Cup, brought to you by Taco Bell."
Important questions following today's impressive showing:
1) How many state titles will Washburn Rural win in a row? (Probably at least a billion.)
2) Which will happen first, a Rural wrestler will not pin his way to the finals, or Coach Pamon Darker will eat a vegetable? (A real vegetable, not a potato.)
3) Will KSHSAA change the rules next year to allow Rural wrestlers to compete in Top Hats?
4) Which wrestler will win this year's The Green Monster Truck Award, the Heisman Trophy of witty banter/studliness on the mat/studliness in the classroom/studliness in spelling for Kansas high school wrestling?
This has been Prant Garker, reporting live from wherever the 5A/6A tournament is held now.
