At a match this weekend the wrestlers had wrestled for one minute when the ref called a technical on the kid & gave him one minute to put underwear on. He did not make it back in time and lost the match. Is there a rule that you have to have underwear on?

Yes, I think so. The rules say something like a suitable under garment and then defines it. I know that boxers are a no-no.

Boxer's are a no-no? Isn't it obvious when someone where's boxers? I see it all the time, I've even done it because I totally forgot to bring the briefs. What about man-thongs...are those a no-no?

Rick is correct. Rule 4-1-1 States a suitable undergarment shall be worn when tights are not worn. There is a little bit if interpretation that goes on here and its left at the discretion of the ref. Here is my point of view. To me a suitable undergarment is one that would not cause the singlet to be excessively baggy. So if you had a very tight fitting pair of boxers similar to biker pants that did not extend below the 4 inch required inseam of the singlet I don't see any problem with that. So called "tighty whities" would be the prefered undergarment, or a jock strap if you prefer (and I can't imagine anyone that would!). I have seen wrestlers who wear these things called "boxer briefs" they are a hybrid of the two they are shorter in the legs than a real boxer and they fit close to the skin, and they are acceptable. But no you can't go commando for sure, and if you have baggy boxer shorts they are unacceptable as well, it presents a danger of getting ones fingers broken. I can't believe someone actaully went out and wrestled with no undergarment I find that amusing.

Fellas, lets not play around here. Put on a jock or something. I am glad the ref was on top of the situation and applied the rule correctly. I'm not sure that going "commando" in your singlet is what is best for our sport.

Wait a minute so because I am a male, a former wrestler, and I've seen all of these undergarments at Wal-mart that means I have a "man-crush"? Wow only Manhattan High School logic could have made up that conclusion, I think i'm going to have to write to the school board and ask them what exactly are they teaching the kids these day over in that school district.
