I thought that I would see what kind of different opinions there are out there on this subject. During seeding meetings there seemed to be a little controversy about 6 and under kids when it came to seeding them in 8 and under. One side says that it doesn't matter that they are 6 and under they should be seated according to win/loss records and so on. The other side says that the competion is tougher in 8 and under and that the 6 and under kids should be seated lower because of that.

I see both sides really. Since there is not a 6 and under at Topeka why should a 6 and under kid be penalized for something that is out of their control. On the other hand I also agree that it is tougher for a 6 year old to compete with kids that can actually be 9 and wrestle 8 and under.

What are your opinions on this?

It's a tough call. In our district, (D/4North) apparently it works the same way when you get to setting up the placing in 12 and under where you have 6th graders, and then 7th graders who have wrestled Junior High, as well as 9th graders in 14/U vs high school. I really feel it boils down to common sense and a coaches ethical and moral conscience. Some coaches have that, while others do not. Yes, in most cases it will resolve itself in the end, however it can effect where wrestlers end up at their districts, and in turn hurts their advancement at state. Pancake, you are right, in alot of cases #1 will more than likely resolve itself, but 2, 3, and 4 can definitly be effected by this. As far as the 6/U issue, my advise would be if you have that talented of a 6/u kid, put him in 8/U occasionally so that you have a bonified arguement at the end of the year as far as placement. I dont know how you handle the 12/U vs. JR. High and 14/U vs. H.S. other than common sense. How about other districts, what do you do in these circumstances???

I think that 6 under should be able to wrestle at subs. I dont think they should be given a top 4 seed reguardless what their record might be at 6 n under. If they are really n truly good enough to deserve a top 4 seed have them wrestle 8 under the last few tournaments. This would be a more fair way to measure a kids wrestling abilty and increase the chances of the right kids getting seeded.
