Our AD e-mailed me and said the coaches will get together Wednesday evening and decide depending on numbers the actual start time. The number of full brackets and byes will help in the processvoting Wednesday to see what time to start. So we will know Thursday (or Wednesday evening if we're lucky).

Thanks Mom160. Could you keep me advised when you find out the start times etc? Do they seed before Wed. evening also or the day of the tournament. Thanks again

It sounds like the coaches are getting together to seed and decide on a start time. I will post as soon as I know anything. I may have to sneak out of work early if they start before 4:00!

I'm working this Regional and talked with the AD-Robert Reed today (Monday). There's no weights (at this time) that are full 16-man brackets.

Start time for Friday is 3:00pm and 11:00am on Saturday!

They usually are, but don't take my word for it. Ask your coach or call Reed for confirmation.

All I can tell you is what I previously posted...

I am not sure of start times etc. but from reading this it shows the inequity of regional tournaments. I have not seen the entries from the 3-2-1A NW regional in Oberlin but I would guess that almost all wts. have at least 16 and many wts. will have more. I know it has been like this forever and things will not change but it sure isnt fair. I am not complaining because this is the way it is and everyone must deal with it. It also may be the reason the NW corner of the state is so dominant in 3-2-1A but it is sad to see kids left at home and not get to compete at state when much poorer quality kids get to go.

Define a "quality kid". Since no one region medaled all four qualifiers last year, why should one region bring more than another? Why is it unfair that one region has to "leave kids at home"? If one region were consistently medaling all four qualifiers, then I could sympathize with your point, but to say that the kids in other regions are unworthy of going to state is kind of pompous. Western Kansas has a strong support system in place. There are other parts of the state that needs a state qualifier to help promote the program.

I hear you. It's the same dilema in Football with losing records finishing 2nd in the Ditrict, Basketball with weak Sub-States, Track and all the other sports run into the same thing. All we can do is play the system dealt.

I remember my Sr. year at Regional Track: I took 4th in the javelin by a couple of inches with a 240+ foot throw and sat at home (before they took the top 4, like now) and the other three regionals had NO ONE even break 200 feet. To say the least, my regional swept the jav and I would have had a chance to be in at least the top four. Oh well...

The states position on this is very clear. They want to get the best wrestlers from the four regions of the state, not just the best wrestlers. I remember a few years back when a 103 lbs. wrestler was competing at state and HE HAD NOT WON A MATCH ALL YEAR. However he came from a regional that only had 4 103 lbs. As far as not one regional placing 4 wrestlers I will believe that. I cant check to see but if you will look up the top 4 placers last years regional from Wakeeney will dominate. Also check the past history- NW Kansas teams and ind. have dominated. It would only be worse if some of those teams kids did not knock each other out at tough regionals. I am not saying there are not good kids everywhere but it must hurt to see kids you beat during the year wrestling at the state tournament while you sit in the stands.

Dang Big Daddy... I hear violin music...do you need a hanky???? Dang shame that some kid from the other parts of the State might get a little something out of his endless evenings of practice.
Life isn't fair - deal with it.

Don't think Big Daddy needs a hanky, he is just making a factual statement. But hey tarzan, I say we take your recomendation of a kids endless evenings of practice to the KSHSAA and see if we can use that next year as a criteria to qualify for state.

No, I do not need a hanky. If you would have read my earlier post I said I was not complaining and everyone must deal with it. As far as some kid from another part of the state getting something etc...etc. Do those kids out west not work just as hard? Should we make the criteria for state the person that stays in practice the longest? I was not crying just making a factual point. The BEST wrestlers do not always make it to state because a bunch of them get knocked out at the NW regional!

Big Daddy, seems we had this conversation back in January. There is always going to be someone left out. What about the JV kid who may also be better than many at a regional, but just cannot beat the guy on his own team. He doesn't even get the chance to compete at regionals.

Just because the Eureka regional doesn't have full 16 man brackets also doesn't mean that we don't have some great, "quality" kids. We'll be bringing home some medals.

Congratulations on throwing 240+ in javelin. You are now the biggest liar i know. Unless of course you have the national record? That's right, you got fourth so you can't have it. Settle down on the stories there pinnochio.

Hey that's alright that you lack the class to email me qnd inquire about it like others have. I don't need you to believe if what I type is true or not. But you really should be able to back up your allegations of me. Do you even know the sport of Javelin throwing and realize the changes that events undergone since I threw in HS?? Do you have any knowledge of what I did in college in the sport? Maybe I'm a lier again if I told you I'm a 3x NAIA All-American, Current record holder in the event for Ottawa University and even have the credit of being the champion of a Spanish track meet held in Barcelona Spain in 1994 with the NAIA All-Star Track Team??

Probably not, but it's much easier to get on here and blast me without having 1% of a clue about me and my history with the sport!!!

... and that's a fact! Koranda did toss the spear for Ottawa U and still holds the record. There was quite a bit of media coverage when he was is school here!

Are you making a POSITIVE difference in the life of kids?
