Can anyone give me the rational for Hutchinson putting 5 wrestlers in an 8 man bracket vs 5 man round robin. I believe everyone is looking for mat time and $20 entry fee for max of 2 matches is extreme, especially when you drive 3 hrs, one night in motel and support the local businesses. I have looked at 16 track tournaments this yr and haven't found one that brackted 5 kids in a bracket.
Haysville is running alot of 4 man and 5 man round robin brackets. we looked into the best way for kids to get good competition and matches. no not every bracket is round robin but we did do that with 4 and 5 man brackets. that way the wrestler would get 3 and 4 matches instead of 2 like in 5 man --8 man bracket. good luck to all those attending the hutch tourny.
We involved at the Hutch Tourney also don't like the 5 kids in the 8 man but we have used 8 man brackets to give more kids a chance to medal. We are discussing expanding brackets next year creating more rounds and better competion. If you have 857 kids like we did and allow 5 man round robins that makes for a very long day. Its bad both ways and we try to do the best we can. This year went very well and the tourney was over by 4 o'clock for most kids. Thanks to all that came and enjoyed the day!
if my cypherin is correct the you would only add 3 matches to the mat by going to round robin with 5 (10 total matches) vs a 5 man bracket (7 matches). Not a big price to pay for 6-8 brackets spread over the whole tournament. I personally wouldn't come to a tourament if i knew there was a chance of a 5 man bracket. They still get 4 places both ways, but the 5th place kid in the RR gets 4 matches vs 2.
My son has wrestled back to back weekends in a six man RR bracket at the Mill Valley and East Kansas tournaments. Ten matches in two tournaments and the family was home after a 30 minute drive by 3pm for both. He only got nine matches in the first four tournaments he wrestled this year. Counting the four matches he had in Salina, he has fourteen matches in his last three. I think it is great to have RR brackets for up to six wrestlers as opposed to throwing them in an eight man with two or three byes.
So, by my cyphering:
4 tourneys, 9 matches equals 2.25 matches per tourney 3 tourneys, 14 matches equals 4.67 matches per tourney
We tried to eliminate all of them during bracketing however after scratches and changes some were created. I will bring these complaints to the tourney board so we can do better next year.
the tournament went well. if you don't like the lack of the five man round robins, talk to the tournament director next year. if you can change her mind on how to run the tournament, then you need to let me know how you did it. all i know is we had and always had a decent size tournament and start on time and get out at a decent time.
10 matches is correct if you look closely you have A vs E and E vs A which is same match twice and so on - simple way pull up a 5 man RR on track = 10 matches
Don't hold your breath. Look at the "Results" page and you will see that 2007 was the last time Hutch posted results. Nothing posted last 2 yrs, so don't be surprised if you don't see 2010 results.
