In my opinion, after looking at all the depth in each weight...
1. 126 - both 120 and 126 are top heavy and deep! 2. 120 - crazy deep with 5 placers outside the top 10. 3. 138 4. 113 - those top eight are fighters! 5. 145 - solid top ten and arguably tougher than 138. 6. 152 - very deep

106 seems pretty tough adding that 3 lbs seems to have made for a lot of returning kids (and upperclassmen) to that weight, but I'm biased.

I just noticed on the latest KWCA rankings that three of last year's 6A 103 State placers (2nd, 5th, 6th) are currently ranked at 6A 106 (1st, 5th, 6th). This group has some pretty salty and seasoned young men stepping in to make some noise this year.

Is there a reason why 138 is blank? Seems like there are some good wrestlers listed?

I can confirm it for you! He is moving to 145 because he wants to help his team win State. McEachern will move to 138. Don't count Newton out!

Big props to Johns moving up in weight to help his team, but can anyone catch Ark City, Andover Central? A lot of wrestling to go but looks like lots of medalists and finalists on both teams.

Well, since McEachern is already ranked 3rd at 145 and will probably be ranked lower at 138, and Johns is ranked 1st at 138, it doesn't make since. There must be more to it than that. They might get snake bit on that deal.

I totally agree with you XGHSWC. There is more to it! A couple of weights would have been affected if Johns didn't make that change for his team. Too complicated to get into on a talk forum though. We will see what happens.

They might get snake bit on that deal. Villers beat McEachern by 3 points at state, making it likely that Garrett gets the 4 ranking at 138. Johns v. Lemon or Johns v. Charbonneau/Williams? How well can Johns carry the weight? I expect Johns to make 138 at some point for Senior National qualification and to give himself choices at state. An interesting move to be sure.

maceachrin lost alot of weight sence wrestling started , he was waay under 145 and even though ranked 3rd it would have been tough for him in those matches against big guys when state came around so he was thinkin about dropping down to 132 if johns was staying at 138 , which would have possibly moved monares to 145 which would have not been good for the team at all. There thinkin was johns is plenty strong and big enough to handle his own with anybody at 145 , maceachrin is tougher than people think and may end up having a good run for the title at 138 sence size wont be a factor and monares will stay at 132.

but 145 is not as tough on paper. It would be ideal for the lesser wrestler to wrestle a weight class that is not as tough.
If you base off rankings. Johns potentially takes first at both weights. But if McEarchin takes less than 3rd place at 138 lbs than it was all for nothing. You score less team points this way.
Charbonneau is pretty tough and does scare off many!
Spare me the "Well we'll see when they wrestle comments" yes, I know they still need to wrestle.

Lazyman 1, are you suggesting that Johns is running from Charb? Charb is an outstanding wrestler and puts in the work to always get better. But to think that Johns would run from anybody is LUDICROUS! This kid moves up or down in weights to wrestle the best there is. This is strickly about how much he cares about his TEAM AND WINNING THE STATE TITLE NOT JUST FOR HIMSELF BUT AS A "TEAM".

LOL - o.k., because I do know him and to tell him his is running from somebody would make him work even harder to tear that person head off. Wouldn't be a good idea - lol. I'm glad is was just in fun.

2INN i agree. In no way at ALL is Johns running from charb. lazyman_1 must have forgot that if johns would have stayed at 138 maceachrin would have possibly moved down due to the fact that he is soo small and monares who is at 132 would possibly have to move to 145. and it is mostly based on faith, Johns and Maceachrin believe that Maceachrin will have a legitament chance at a state title at 138 no matter what the rankings say (not taking away from anybody at 138) while at 145 there would be a good chance the decent wrestlers who cut a lot of weight would have been able to get the best of him because he would have been so small

Through much debating, Newton as a team (wrestlers, coaches, and parents) decided that they would have the best chance at a team title this way. Yes Johns may be sacrificing the most out of all of them but that's just what a team leader does. No matter where the chips fall at the end atleast those boys will know they did everything they could as a team and as individuals to get the team title. You have to give props for that. Good Luck to everybody this year , 5a state championship tournament is going to be a brawl!!

Why would it be ludicrous to think a wrestler changes weight classes to have a better shot to win a title???? Happens all the time!
