The news crew of KSNT Channel 27 in Topeka was on hand at the Kansas Krusaders 4/17 practice at Burlingame High School. The news team produced a 2-minute segment that aired on the 5pm and 10pm newscasts that night. It was a very positive piece about the growth of women's wrestling, USA Wrestling's support of women's wrestling, and the growing opportunities for top girls to earn college wrestling scholarships. Wrestlers Kayley Croucher of Burlingame, Emma Mercer of Lawrence, and Yaslyn Howey of Topeka were interviewed and there were many shots of all the girls working on freestyle wrestling drills. The segment closed with an open invitation for other girls to get involved and how to contact Coach Ed.
Many thanks to all the girls at the practice and to those who were interviewed. You were great ambassadors for the sport of wrestling.
To those girls who are considering taking up the sport or who want to further develop their wrestling skills, these Sunday practices provide wonderful opportunities to work out with other girls under the direction of some exceptional coaches - Ed Edison, Jason Ogden, Jarrod Ogden, Justin Ogden, and Bill Croucher. FYI, there are freestyle competition coming up which will feature girls divisions and these practices get you ready to compete and also help you prepare for the USAW Junior Women's Nationals scheduled for late July in Fargo.

Caught part of it on the earlier showing with some anchor with either a lisp or light loafers talking about it. The segment itself was well done.

KSNT Channel 27 ran a segment on the Kansas Krusaders girls wrestling program a little while back and due to the number of requests to re-play the segment or make copies of it, they have provided a link where you can view the 2-minute sports feature. I think the link should be active for about a week. You can view the segment by clicking the link below: http://www.ksnt.com/test/stories/girls_wrestling_story.htm Jeff Mercer

Great feature. Thanks for posting Jeff. It is now on the national forums for all to take a look at.

Mike: Thanks for sharing this video with a national audience. Sometimes we are so focused on supporting and promoting our own girl wrestlers and creating opportunities for girls to practice and compete that we forget there are others around the country who might be interested in the efforts of USA Wrestling to develop a stronger women's wrestling program in Kansas. Jeff and Coach Ed, no problem, I know that we have one of the best women's programs in the country and they often get left out of a lot of things. Thanks to people like those involved in the Crusaders we have a lot to be grateful for and just like our men's programs, we need to let the ladies shine. It was a great piece and hopefully it brings a little recognition to the Ladies from Kansas.
