Any possibililty of cancellation?

Any possibililty of cancellation? - 03/26/09 02:35 PM

Before taking off on a our long trip today, does anyone know if there would be any chance of cancelling or postponing the tournament. Hate to get all the way to Topeka and be stuck with no tournament. Any advice would help. Don't want the expenses of going twice if not necessary. Thanks

NO CHANCE OF CANCELLATION!!! In all the years (over 25 years) I've been involved, the State Tournament has NEVER been cancelled.

Take extra precautions if the weather is bad and drive safe!! If need, call my call phone (785) 632-1887 on Friday --

I called my husband looking for advice on whether or not to try and track down a hotel for Friday. I wondered about the kids out West and how difficult travel would be for them. He said, " Are you kidding... this is wrestling...they'll have their tractors out on the roads to get there!! LOL. Isn't it true? (No offense to anyone - wrestling families are very determined people.):)
Got a room - by the way!

I bet there will be some scratches from far Western Kansas.

If they scratch, you can be assured they are stuck in a snowddrift somewhere, cause they wouldn't let a little snow keep them at home. Those Western Kansas folks are plenty hardy.....

Re: Any possibililty of cancellation? - 03/26/09 08:28 PM

Just to be safe, I think we should postpone the whole thing until next week.

No, district 1 is the only district that has those preparations! They are known to take extra qualifiers from time to time.

Is there a way they might extend weigh in times for people who it might take longer to get there due to this weather?

Re: Any possibililty of cancellation? - 03/27/09 02:13 PM

I'll play devils advocate for a minute, but at the seeding meeting for D1 the comments were made that this is Kansas and we all have access to news and weather. The thoughts were then that we as adults should be able to plan accordingly.

Like I said, just passing on the jest of the conversation. Whatever the conditions, please everyone be safe!

I think the State not postponing this tournament is terrible, What about those folks from Western Kansas, there are highways closed, and they lost a wrestler last weekend due to a car accident. This is about the kids and putting kids on the highways in this weather is wrong. It is not like it is only affecting one side of the state. The whole state is being affected by this storm. Lets just pray that everyone makes it safe to Topeka. PLEASE PLEASE drive safe and remember this tournament is not worth the risk, you have your whole life to be a State Champ!

Re: Any possibililty of cancellation? - 03/27/09 08:30 PM

bruster6, I have to agree wholeheartedly with your sentiments. The problem is too many people are too hard-headed and think this is the "end all be all" of their lives. The state needs to think this over. Think of the Siruta family, who went through the pain no family should have to ever go through, losing a 7-year old child.

There will be other state tournaments. The vast majority of these kids will be back next year, the year after that and well beyond.
