Elementary School Dual Teams and Information!! - 03/30/10 08:05 PM

Here are the teams for Elementary Duals. If your wrestler is listed, he WILL NOT be removed if another wrestler in that weight contacts me. There are two situations where I am waiting to here confirmation which may move a wrestler from one team to another. We also need one 130 lb kid and 2 140 lb kids. PLEASE help us fill those last spots. If your wrestler is an alternate, please send him. There are at least 16 teams competing at this event and I am sure they will get some good wrestling in. I think our alternates got 4 matches last year and there were only 8 or 9 teams.

Please go to the link below and print off the required forms -

I also need a copy of the following -
Birth Certificate
Insurance Card
Current Grade Card

Fill out the forms and mail them to me with a $250.00 check made out to Dal Eck. My address is on the code of conduct form. Please put your wrestlers name in the memo of the check so I can keep track. If you can't access the forms thru the link, email me and I will get them to you.

http://www.usawks.com/invites/100409ElemDuals.pdf

We will need a few volunteers for the following;
- driving the vans - we will have 4 15 passenger vans - Dal Eck and Chris Bowen will drive 2 of them.
- running the tables - I believe we have to provide one person per dual per team - last year the parents took turns doing this.
- I may need someone to haul a couple coolers for drinks - the vans get pretty full once loaded with kids and bags
- I am pretty sure we have enough coaches going - I would like 3 per team - 2 mat coaches and 1 bench coach

- We have 15 rooms reserved for the wrestlers and coaches. We will do room assignments later.

We will be leaving from Cokeley's Auto Exchange in Lawrence on Friday April 9th at 1:00. Be there at noon to get checked in and get your van assignments, etc.. - 1225 E 23rd is the address - Weigh in is from 5:00 to 9:00 that night and it is a one time weigh in. I am not aware of any weight allowance so you must make weight. We will go eat after weigh in. Your wrestler will need some money for food. We will have t-shirts for sale for the parents and family members - they will be $10.00. If we sell enough of them, we will get pizza for the wrestlers Saturday night. I may need someone to help keep track of and sell the t-shirts. Last year, we had quite a few people from other teams that bought them too.

Check the forum for more information or if you have any questions, email me - dal@matteck.com - or call me 316-641-4913

Remember, we need help with 130 and 140 lb kids.

Thanks,
Dal Eck

Re: Elementary School Dual Teams and Information!! - 03/31/10 12:41 PM

There have been a couple changes:

Drake Taysom is now on Team 3 at 60 lbs.

Tucker Wilson is now an alternate on Team 1.

Christian Rivas has left Team 3 at 120 lbs.

We still need a 130 lb and 2 140 lb kids.

Are there any pictures of singlets anywhere?

Re: Elementary School Dual Teams and Information!! - 04/01/10 02:04 AM

RYLANT,
I think they said they would be using the same singlets as the Middle Schoolers, but not 100% sure on that.

If so, I just found the link to them in Cokely's old thread.

Re: Elementary School Dual Teams and Information!! - 04/05/10 03:27 PM

Thanks to the parents and kids who have helped fill our 3 Team Kansas dual teams. We still need a 50 lber, a 120lber and a 140 lber.

Here are the alternate changes;
Add Brocke Budke to Team #1
Add Kaj Perez to Team #2
Add Keaton Sander to Team #3

I know it is getting late for changes, so parents of alternates, please let me know your wrestler can still go.

It is possible that we may still need a couple alternates, so keep an eye on the forum just in case.

It is also possible that some the alternates could be on a team formed at the duals of alternates from all teams from all states. It will be up to each wrestler if they want to do this.

Once again, thanks and let's get the last spots filled.

Re: Elementary School Dual Teams and Information!! - 04/08/10 12:57 AM

If you can make it, do it! This was a great experience for my son last year. He loved being a part of "Team Kansas" and came away with a confidence that wouldn't have developed without wrestling at this level. He still keeps in contact with his buddies from last years team and cheers them on every chance he gets. I was very impressed with Dal Eck, Klaus Schmidt, and Mr Moon, as my boy calls him, and the rest of the coaching crew on how they took care of our Kansas boys! If you can go, the money you spend is worth it!

I hope someone will update us on the forums as I will be in Iowa this weekend for the MS duals. I will still have one ear towards Nebraska though and wish our boys the best. Let's take down Minnesota 1 this year!

Go Team Kansas!

Re: Elementary School Dual Teams and Information!! - 04/08/10 01:52 AM

Without pointing fingers, and without knowing the circumstances behind the reasons, I have to say this:

I don't know if most of us realize just HOW MUCH WORK it takes to put an event like this together. There are so many people that are backing out, it has to be pure hell on the people putting this together. Do you know how hard it is to tell a kid he can't go because a better kid already signed up? Well then try to call that same kid back and tell him he can go because the other kid backed out! You already upset him by turning him down, now you are begging him to come back. And most likely he already made other plans for that weekend. If you are going to tell them you are going, please go. And if you have a VALID excuse, back out. But if it is one of those things where you decide that it is too expensive, or a birthday party came up, or some other BS, DON'T sign up to start with!!

The few trips that I have been involved with, this is easily the most FRUSTRATING thing to deal with.

If you give your word, your word should be good.

I know that noone is purposely trying to make life hard for these guys putting this together, but please understand just how much work it takes to put it together, and respect that.

Not trying to sound too harsh, but also want to paint a picture of it takes to do this.

Re: Elementary School Dual Teams and Information!! - 04/08/10 11:32 PM

This is the info I found from earlier post? and the auto exchange I found in Lawrence was Auto Exchange1225 e. 23rd street if someone can verify that would be great

The date for this event is April 9th, 10th, & 11th. The cost is going to be $250.00 per kid and includes the following;

Entry fee - this is a USA event so you must have your USA card

Team Kansas singlet, t-shirt and shorts ( we will be using the same design as the Middle School except there will be no AAU symbol as this is a USA event)

Transportation to and from the event (we will meet and leave together from Cokeleys Auto Exchange in Lawrence and return there also - you will need to make arrangements to have your wrestler there and picked up as well)

Hotel for 2 nights. We will be staying at the Holiday Inn Express in Fremont, Ne. 1-402-753-3850 is the number if parents want to stay at the same hotel as the team.

We will provide water for the wrestlers and hopefully there will be enough money left for pizza one night.

It looks like we will FOR SURE have 2 teams and I would like to take a 3rd team if we can fill it. There are 16 weight per team and we can take up to 4 alternates per team. I can not guarantee any specific number of matches for the alternates. Just depends on what other teams have for extras.

We will be renting vans for transportation and I may need a couple parents to help out and drive. We will also need parents to help run the table during each dual.

We will try to put together our best team and then 2 other teams. This may be difficult as I know there are many evenly matched kids out there. No matter what team your wrestler end up on, he is going to get lots of national quality matches.

If you have already posted on the forum, I have your wrestler's info. If you have not posted on the forum, please email me at dal@matteck.com with your wrestler's weight, grade and accomplishments. I need to know by Monday March 8th. I have to let Blue Chip know how many teams so they can get the singlets, t-shirts and shorts started.

I am working on the required forms and will either post or email them to you. Checks need to be made out to Dal Eck.

Dal,

Brock Budke and Daniel Butler will turn in their paperwork at the site in Lawrence. Kelly Butler is bringing both of them and will give you the paperwork.

Just reminding you so that you don't have to sweat that part of it. I know this is hectic and we sure appreciate you, John and the rest that are putting this together.

See you in Nebraska.

Re: Elementary School Dual Teams and Information!! - 04/12/10 03:03 AM

I want to thank all of the coaches for putting this together. It was an awesome weekend! Everyone should take some interest in this and start planning for next year so that we can fill all of the teams.

Also, congratulations to the 4 wrestlers from Kansas Team 1 (Spartans) who achieved All-American status: Boo Dryden, Christian Bowen, Zach Eck, and Blake Stovall. Congratulations to Boo Dryden and Blake Stovall for earning "Most Outstanding Wrestler" as well.

I know that other KS kids received awards as well, but it was hard to keep up with all 3 teams since they used two gyms. It was a great experience and it was a lot of fun to just set down and watch 16 consecutive matches on one mat instead of the running around from mat to mat that usually happens at normal tournaments. We had a blast and got to meet lots of new kids and parents that we look forward to seeing again next season.

To all the organizers of this tournament I have a huge bone to pick with you...
I just spent almost 3 hours in a car with Zack Bowen and Spencer Tracy and I could not get them to shut up or stop laughing or sharing stories about their awesome experience the entire way.
lol
They had an awesome time and all I heard was that kid was a beast and this kid was awesome and this kid was so cool and that coach was so nice....
They also talked about they got to make sure they do good next year to be considered to come back.
This is an awesome thing that you guys do for KS kids and our sport. I would HIGHLY encourage you to get this info out sooner next year and maybe do flyers or contact clubs directly.
The KS teams all did well but we left some studs at home and had a few empty spots. I know with a little more support and commitment from the wrestling community KS could be even more of a dominating factor in the years to come!

Again
Thank You from The Tracy and the Bowen Families!!!

Dal, John and everyone else that helped organize this.....

What an awesome event. Thank you so much for providing this opportunity for the kids and for the rest of us coaches/parents! The kids all wrestled their guts out and had a great time. Brock hasn't quit talking about it.

As far as I know all of the kids got at least 5-8 matches (including the alternates). What a great experience!

It was also great to get to know a lot of the other coaches and parents. Thanks again!

It's great to hear positive feedback to your coaches kids and parents that were involved. As USA Nebraska Treasurer we are excited about what this tournament can become for our younger USA wrestlers. We need you as states to express this to other states that are not involved. We feel that the facility we are in can host 30-32 teams with other facilities being discussed as we speak.

Teams we are heavily recruiting to get involved are
Indiana
Wisconsin
Ohio
Michigan
Colorado
Oklahoma
Texas
Pennsylvania
If you have any contacts for these states.. send your positive remarks for this tournament to them and also please send their contact info to
cgocke@plattsmouthschools.org or alphasurveying@qwestoffice.net

Dal-John-Moon and many more name's I can't recall--thank you for all the work you folks put it. My son had a blast and even asked why we can't always wrestle as a dual team!! Awesome singlet's-shirt/shorts and some of the best matches we had all year. Just sad this was our last year to be eligable. Blake said it was by far the best wrestling time he ever had! Thanks again to all who was involved in putting this together. BIG thanks to those that drove the vans--Did van 2 get any "replies" to sign in window? To be young again! Priceless!!

Re: Elementary School Dual Teams and Information!! - 04/12/10 02:06 PM

This is an event not to be missed. My son had a great time, got to meet some new kids and got to get to know some D2, D3 & D4 kids that he has competed against but didn't really know. He talked about the event the entire 3 1/2 hour ride home & woke up this morning talking about it. We use the term team alot on this forum but my wrestler finally got it after this past weekend. A big thanks goes out to the Garden City coaches & Manhattan coach that coached Team Gladiators, my son was actually asking about relocating from Topeka to Garden City on the way home last night but Mom (the voice of reason) put that to an end quickly. Thank you to all that volunteered your time to put this together, it is definately a highlight of Alex's wrestling career to date.

Re: Elementary School Dual Teams and Information!! - 04/12/10 02:46 PM

Congratulations to all the Kansas wrestlers who took this opportunity to go wrestle some stiff competition. There were 20 teams at this event and I am sure there will be more next year. As this event grows, the competition will get even tougher. We had several duals that came down to the last match or two which was exciting.

Thanks to all the coaches, table workers, van drivers and others who made this go smoothly.

Thanks you parents for trusting your sons with us - I hope they did not come back too corrupted!! Except for a couple black eyes, a nice cut lip and some bruises, we all came back in one piece.

I hope all the wrestlers had a good time and I expect them all to be signed up for the Elementary or Middle School teams next year.

Coaches, please send me your teams individual records so I can post them.

If anyone has a picture of the boys taking a leak by the side of road west of Omaha, please send it to me. That was funny!

P.S. Rusty, I am not aware of any positive responses to the request from van 2!!!

Re: Elementary School Dual Teams and Information!! - 04/12/10 05:28 PM

After a weekend like this one where does one start....

I want to thank Dal, Moses and crew for getting this set up and organized.

The wrestling and the competition was completely insane.

I think the best thing was seeing coaches and clubs that have battled each other every weekend come together as a team. Just not for the sake of being a team but they truly acted like a team!

It was a great learning experience and motivation for next year.

We took alot of pictures of the Trojans matches, I have them being made to discs as we speak if any parents or coaches of the Trojan kids want a copy e-mail me and I will send one. They might not be the greatest pictures but there alot of them.

I agree Cam had a great time and actually said he liked the dual format better than tournament! A big thanks to the Cavanaughs for recording for me! I know Cam made friends he will hopefully have forever, an awesome experience for all of the kids. The 1 thing I did notice is how small all the Ks kids seemed to be, YIKES! All the other kids were huge! He is def looking forward to the middle school duals next year, A big thanks to everyone

The Holiday Inn Express called me and said they found some clothes that a parent had called them about. If you lost something, call them.

I still have the following t-shirts if any parent, sibling , etc needs one - $10.00 each

1 adult medium
15 adult large
1 adult xl

I also have 3 singlets - $50.00 each. These are the ones we did not use because we had no 140 lb. kids.

Email me at dal@matteck.com if interested

Don't forget, we will be doing this next year. Please help spread the word.

Again, thanks to all who helped.
