Re: Liberty Nationals - Team Kansas - 01/03/11 10:52 PM

do they have teams by classes at these or are they just 14 under. it would be better if they would do it per age group and get more teams and more kids involved.
Posted By: HEADUP

Re: Liberty Nationals - Team Kansas - 01/04/11 02:07 AM

they usually do it by weight classes, so that all ages are included. nothing says that there is only one ks team.
Posted By: speters

Re: Liberty Nationals - Team Kansas - 01/04/11 12:19 PM

That is correct. Duals will be based on weight only. Two divisions, HS and Kids division. That means that if a 4th grader is part of your line up he could very well end up wrestling an 8th grader.
Posted By: bockman

Re: Liberty Nationals - Team Kansas - 01/04/11 11:58 PM

so if they had it for all age groups dont you think more kids could participate and be able to wrestle as a team against other states at the same age group. then kansas teams could take top 2 or 3 in all age groups. i would allow my son to participate and possibly run a team of just 10 unders. not sure that is in the best interest for 6 under but maybe 8 under, 10 under, 12 under and 14 under. if kansas would let the highschool kids participate that would add more kids as well. just my opinion. having an 8th grade wrestle a 4th grader doesnt make much sense does it.
Posted By: bockman

Re: Liberty Nationals - Team Kansas - 01/05/11 01:48 AM

i guess my only other question is if they did seperate out the age groups would the facilities be able to handle that many kids. i look forward to trying this out in the future.

Re: Liberty Nationals - Team Kansas - 01/05/11 05:12 AM

My sons been wrestling dual teams for several years. They are the first experience these kids have to preticipate on a wrestling team. And its really really fun for all of us. But its the weight you have to watch. A 10under 100lber should really not preticipate use good sense and if you an 8under 50lber he should be fine not to many 8th grade 50lber out there. Do them if you can your son will love it but will lose some matches most likely but its a great time

Re: Liberty Nationals - Team Kansas - 01/05/11 07:12 AM

This will never happen but...
Wouldnt it be cool if someone ran a tournament in Ks and each district could send teams or if a club was large enough to send their own team to wrestle a duel format.
Limit it to 6th grade and below!
My son went to the elementary school duals last year on one of the Ks teams and had an awesome time.
It makes kids look forward to MS and HS wrestling!
Say $400 bucks a team times about 8 to 10 teams
That wouldnt be a bad little fund raiser for a club cause your medal and ref costs compared to say a novice tournament would be more then cut in half so your profit would be equal if not higher then say a regular novice tournament.
You would only need about 4 half mats and 4 sets of table workers and 5 refs.
Plus if you wrestled pool then bracket each kid would get at least 5 matchs!

Re: Liberty Nationals - Team Kansas - 02/01/11 06:17 AM

Can you just be in the duels or do you have to wrestle in the tournament as well? Garrett would love to go at 120 but not sure if we can do both.

Re: Liberty Nationals - Team Kansas - 02/01/11 02:15 PM

I just need names and the weights they plan on wrestling on Sunday. If in fact we don't fill the team we will not participate in the dual. Entry fee is $375/team. I thought I would divide that by each wrestler for entry to cover cost.

The bad part about this tournament is that they moved the date and it now falls on the same weekend as highschool state. This will be the first year that we will miss this event

Re: Liberty Nationals - Team Kansas - 02/02/11 01:36 AM

Had a couple people ask me if you had to wrestle in the tourney to be in the duels. Can you verify for me if you have to or not?

missouri just done a district dual last weekend at blue springs.all 8 districts sent kids for 10 and under and 14 and under divisions.was our first dual and was awsome.missouri is planning on doing this every year.our district and i know a few others had wrestle off if there was more than 1 kid at that age and weight and that was fun to watch.we had more fun at that tourny than any other we have been too.watching all them kids cheering on the kid that is wrestling is great.

Re: Liberty Nationals - Team Kansas - 02/02/11 08:15 PM

Yes i am a very proud dad for all the hard work my son has done this year. I just thought that the point of putting a team together would be to get the kids with the best records that are able to participate. no big deal i just want Kansas to be represented well.and i did not see anyone at 95 on the first list.

Re: Liberty Nationals - Team Kansas - 02/03/11 04:18 PM

If you look at the liberty nationals web site they have a # you can call if you can't fined a team and they will try to fined one for you. Good luck

Re: Liberty Nationals - Team Kansas - 02/03/11 06:45 PM

These dual tournaments really need to go to the first to sign up unless there is some criteria stated beforehand is set forth. We could easily bump a kid in favor of another bc one kid may be a little better than another but where does it end? I say we reward the kid who signed up first. If we don't do it that way we really need to set forth rules before signing up. I'm sure your kid and the others signed up are all fine wrestlers, but every 95 pounder out there would probably be bumped by deshazer or wood or a number of 100 pounders who may cut weight for liberty. So unless first come first serve is replaced, the bump for a supposed better wrestler is not in my opinion a good method to replace a kid who obviously wanted to be there and got there first.

Re: Liberty Nationals - Team Kansas - 02/03/11 06:49 PM

If you are going to put together a Kansas team you should put together the best team possible. Represent Kansas well! JMO
90 lbs. Is open as Cole will be taking that weekend off to watch high school state.
Posted By: speters

Re: Liberty Nationals - Team Kansas - 02/03/11 07:19 PM

John,

Thanks for letting me know that Cole is a no go. Mike had mentioned that you were a maybe. I just listed him as having priority. Kansas will be well represented. We will be competitive. Will we be the best, I don't know. Since there is no qualifying tournament I'm not sure that matters. What matters is that we gain valuable experience as well as representing their state and individual clubs respectively. It's not about winning and losing until you reach the next couple of levels. JMO

The duals will only strengthen these young men into better wrestlers!

Re: Liberty Nationals - Team Kansas - 02/06/11 07:33 PM

This could very well happen if someone wanted to take the steps of a stepper . The Ideal date for this would be the day after the Wichita classic . Each district in our state could put together their respectable teams and since most of the studs will be here anyway and since it is the week before all of our sub districts the Ks die hard wrestlers and coaches want as much mat time as possible , Well there you go ! 2 mats , 4 district teams ! ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE ! As far as officials go < Lets just say I have some very close friends !

Re: Liberty Nationals - Team Kansas - 02/07/11 02:36 AM

what would make it better if they would break it down per age group. then more kids could get a chance to do it. so if there happened to be a 10 under group i would be very interested in doing it. not sure i would be interested in having my 10 under wrestle a 14 under kid though. what would either kid learn. quick pin doesnt teach either kid much.

Re: Liberty Nationals - Team Kansas - 02/23/11 07:09 PM

Here is a few reminders in regards to Liberty Nationals:
Weigh Ins are Friday Night 6-8pm

I would like to have a short meeting on Saturday Morning for those wrestlers who are participating in the tournament/dual on Sunday. We will meet on the mats directly in front of the head table at approximately 7:50AM. This will give the coaches a chance to introduce ourselves and I would like to get bout matches to follow the kids matches throughout the day.

Remember, those individuals who are not participating in the tournament on Saturday must weigh in on Sunday morning from 7:30-8 A.M. Wrestling starts at 8:30. Be there minimum 8AM for warmups.

Table workers should get in without having to pay(I will send a list to them). Please make sure you bring a copy of your childs birth certificate in case an issue pops up. Coaches must pay $25 to get on floor.
