Witnesses of crash that killed five year old asked to come forward

WICHITA, Kansas — Wichita police are making a plea to anyone who may have information about a deadly accident on Kellogg that killed a five-year-old girl Saturday.
Police are still trying to piece together just what happened on Kellogg that left five-year-old Amber Randolph, a Clearwater kindergartner, dead.
Investigators say a pickup going westbound on Kellogg swerved to avoid another vehicle going the same way. Somehow that pickup crossed the median and struck a vehicle with a mother and five-year-old girl inside. Randolph was properly restrained and died at the scene.
Officers aren't sure how fast the pick-up was going or if the driver was possibly racing another vehicle at the time of the crash.
"Depending on the outcome of the investigation, exactly what happens, you know we don't know who would be charged, but potentially there could be other charges," said Capt. Max Tenbrook with the Wichita Police Department.
Officers are asking anyone who may have seen the crash to call police, 911, or Crime Stoppers at 267-2111.
Police believe Randolph's 37-year-old mother and the driver of the pickup truck have been released from the hospital. Officials are waiting to release the girl's name until school officials can inform their students and parents. They will release the information later this afternoon.

Fatal crash witnesses found

The Wichita Eagle
More witnesses to a collision on Kellogg that killed a 5-year-old Clearwater girl Saturday afternoon have come forward, Wichita police said Wednesday.
Amber Randolph was killed just after 3:45 p.m. when the eastbound Toyota Camry her mother was driving was hit head-on by a pickup that swerved into the concrete median on westbound Kellogg between Seneca and Meridian, then flew over the barrier and into the eastbound lanes.
The 25-year-old driver was thrown out of the pickup. Both he and Amber's mother have been released from the hospital.
Police asked for the public's help in determining the circumstances of the crash. Officials have said evidence indicates another vehicle forced the red 1986 Chevy pickup to swerve off westbound Kellogg into the concrete median.
"We're going through a mountain of evidence right now, and a mountain of statements," said Lt. Joe Schroeder of the accident follow-up unit.
No arrests have been made in the case.
The funeral for Amber will be 10 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church in Clearwater. She was a kindergartner at Clearwater West Elementary School.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to be made to Susan G. Komen for the Cure, 1148 S. Hillside, Suite 11, Wichita, KS 67211.
