What is the email to send in satelite weighins? Do we need to let you know this is what we are doing?

On 6U State - could you clarify the ranking? It would be nice to know what you mean by A, B, C, D

Thank you looking forward to another Ottawa production.

Re: ottawa mat masters tournament - 02/08/12 10:10 PM

I am guessing that the pound allowance will go for all wrestlers who are wrestling on the 18th and the 19th not just the ones attending the Ottawa tourn. on the 18th, But I wanted to make sure, as we have some wrestlers planning on going on the 19th, but participating in a different tourn. on the 18th. I am just wanting to make sure so we can plan accordingly.

In Response to your post, A - state placer, B - Usually takes first place, C - Usually takes 2nd or 3rd place, D - Usually finishes 4th or does not place.

For those young boys and girls that are wrestling on Sunday in the 6U State Championship will be givin a 1 pound allowance regardless of where you wrestle on Saturday, not just if you wrestle in the Ottawa Mat Masters open.

Ok I was wandering my 4 year old is going to be entered in to this but the club we are in is NOT sending a coach...they told us a parent could coach him but neither one of us no much about it...could we get another coach to help out?

Re: ottawa mat masters tournament - 02/10/12 04:32 AM

all you would have to do is ask. most coaches would be willing to help out. the kansas young guns will have 3 or so kids going so if you see someone with a kansas young guns shirt on just ask and we can help you out. heck i will coach him to lay on his back if he is wrestling my son lol.

Re: ottawa mat masters tournament - 02/10/12 01:02 PM

I am one of the coaches from Ottawa and we have several others that will be willing to coach your child. I will be running these tournmaments this year. Come and find me when you get there and we will make sure that there is a coach at all your sons matches. My name is Richard.

Are you offering remote weigh-ins?
Top post says no, but someone asked where to email remote weights to. Just want to clarify either way.
Thanks!

Re: ottawa mat masters tournament - 02/12/12 06:25 PM

I already see the potential problem that could arise with the extra pound on Sunday. For example that's say a kid always weighs 38 so he could sign up for 40 on Saturday, then come back and wrestle 37 on Sunday with the extra pound.

Not a big deal but clarification, does a kid have to wrestle the same weight on Saturday in order to get the extra pound on Sunday?

Re: ottawa mat masters tournament - 02/13/12 04:17 PM

We have 3 boys going from our club to 6 under state. I wish we knew the clarification because for example my son weighs on average anywhere from 37.4 to 38.4.Never more then 38.4. I put him in the 40 lb weight class because I don't know how to explain to a child they can't wrestle if they don't make weight. Our other 2 wrestles are the same way so we moved them up a weight class. Is it to late to change their weight classes? Just asking new at some of this.. thanks

Re: ottawa mat masters tournament - 02/18/12 12:26 AM

Our club did a remote weigh in and emailed results to both of the email addresses listed in this forum. One email address retuned with an auto-reply saying they do not accept spam. Hopefully someone will respond that they have received our results.

We did skin checks at our weigh in. Do the boys also need to check in tomorrow morning?

Thanks,

I try to usually not complain about tournaments as I understand it is tough to run them however this was not a good tournament today. Not enough table workers or referee's, way over capacity, very small wrestling surfaces and defiantly did not meet the safety requirements of a sanctioned meet for relief area with regards to the out of bounds. Matches were very slow because they were having to constantly stop and restart because of small surfaces. And for all that they still wanted $3 at the door. Best part was the concessions.

My son was wondering if they are going to finish the 10u 76A and 76B brackets.

The tournament ran fairly smooth for what it was but was way over capacity and the surfaces were way too small. Should have been limited to 400-500 kids.

Re: ottawa mat masters tournament - 02/20/12 12:06 AM

10u 76a- Niegsch took 3rd and Bilby took 4th.
10u 76b- I think Jameson 1st, Cassida 2nd, Wathke 3rd and Erickson 4th

Re: ottawa mat masters tournament - 02/20/12 05:51 AM

agreed very slow running tournament definitely a fire hazard with all the people clustered in a small space. I think fewer entries should be taken next year. Don't get so greedy you have a team tournament and a huge state tournament in the same weekend. geesh

Re: ottawa mat masters tournament - 02/20/12 05:01 PM

I see where the limit was reached but am curious as to why entries were still taken. There were way too many people there and I couldn't see kids wrestle due to the amount of people standing throughout the entire tournament.

"A special thank you go's out to Tuff and Joe Knecht of the Paola wrestling club."

Absolutely Thank you Joe & Tuff. Some of you have no idea what they did to keep the tournament running smoothly along with several others at the tables - SIMPLY AMAZING! When the fire got hot - Cool Hand Joe and Terrible Tuff took the task at hand and kept the matches rolling.

We sent our entry in knowing there was going to be 700 plus kids in the tournement, we expected it to be crowded. It has been crowded every year, we still go. To get most of the best wrestlers out of district 1 together 3 weeks before sub-districts and to see the level of competition and the weights that everyone will be at, thats why we showed up. Ottawa has always put on a great tournament with some of the best wrestlers showing up there. Some brackets had 4-5 state placers and 5-6 qualifiers of the 20 kids, outstanding!!! As far as the statement about greed.. I did see where Ottawa Mat Masters made a donation to Braden Berner, the little boy with the tumor on his spine. I hope they sent our entire clubs entry fees to help this kid. I feel as that should show us all the level excellence that the Ottawa club trys to display in our wrestling community.

Re: ottawa mat masters tournament - 02/21/12 01:19 PM

i will have to say that it was way crowded. there was some good wrestling. i took my older son because my younger son was wrestling on sunday anyways. i think they took extra entries not to be greedy but so those kids would have a chance to wrestle and not be turned away. not sure how many over 700 they had but if someone calls you and says hey we would like to sign up or my kid would have to sit out would you really want to turn away a kid or give him a chance. i do not know the circumstances but i wouldnt turn a kid away either. i would look for a different place to have it if its that over crowded in the future. not sure where would be a better place in ottawa but if its like that year after year something has to change.
