Re: 6A Rankings - 11/10/09 07:17 PM

Ok this is just me being picky and I know rankings arent everything but I also dont understand why the #1 ranked kid at 160 is there when he placed lower then Royal at a different weight class and Royal is returing to the class in which he placed 3rd. Again im being picky but if I dont ask for them who will. God Bless.

Re: 6A Rankings - 11/10/09 08:22 PM

Glad you asked. Reece came in to state with only 2 losses. He lost to Houlden and Lalo at State after having beat Lalo twice during the year, once at regionals.

He also beat:

Stultz
Eck
Fulbright - Twice, one by fall.
Curtis - 11-6
Gaither - By fall.

Besides Anson Worrell and Sammy Sanders, who were Royals other two losses to?

No disrespect to Evon but in the end, I believe Reece is better. It would not surprise me to see Reece win 3 titles in a row.

i've heard the lucas vincent is graduating at semester and enrolling at mizzou since he is signed there to play football. i apologize if i misheard and am spreading a rumor but does anyone know if this is true? i'd really like to know since he's been a great heavyweight the last 3 years.

That was previously planned and is no longer the case. He plans to wrestle at ON this season.

Who do you have besides Miller, Beasley and Harper?
Posted By: munsch

Re: 6A Rankings - 11/21/09 12:36 AM

Alix Murphey 140 or 145
Dylan Tetrault 189
and a couple others that should do alright.

Re: 6A Rankings - 11/21/09 07:25 PM

who else is going to be good at 112 this year
Posted By: Chief Renegade

Re: 6A Rankings - 11/21/09 11:29 PM

Tom Abrams - BVNW
Jack Mitchell - SME
Canaan Coker - SMW
Logan Bjorgo - BV
Kevin O'Grady - BVW

Re: 6A Rankings - 11/22/09 01:13 AM

I am a BIG fan of Campus!
They have a lot of good things going on right now. Murphy & Tetrault are good.
They have a lot of fresh faces in the room that will make for great practice partners and bring some excitement.
With Day, Burke, lil Rief etc...
They have a lot of depth!
Will that drive them to the top 5??? idk!
After Miller Beasley & Harper are gone then who's going to be the stud core?
I just wouldn't count chickens before they are hatched!
JMO!

Chief,

O'Grady will be tough this year, but it won't be at 112. Probably more like 125.

I think you need to consider Jordan Ristau at 125. He got a broken bone last year before regionals and has a win over #4

Please explain why cody beasly is ranked 1 at 119 and he didnt even place last year and the year before was 6th, when dane norris won 112 beating ruiz and deshazer last year it makes no since

Beasley beat Troy Clark, Blaine Smith (albeit controversial) and Zach Hoehn on his way to the 16/125 kids title last March. Additionally he beat Singular and lost in OT to Jeff Vesta at Newton. He has also placed two years in a row. That takes nothing away from the tournament that Dane had last year. It was an awesome run.

Re: 6A Rankings - 11/24/09 04:07 AM

I also think Jason Harper from Campus is going 125!!
Posted By: Stand Up King

Re: 6A Rankings - 11/24/09 03:38 PM

Im tired of hearing about Lucas. Either he is or he isnt. Life and wreslting goes on. And More importantly, I highly agree with Nelson on Jordon Ristau. He would have placed at state last year at 119 had he not broke his collar bone right before regionals. He WILL place this year at 125 and has a win over a couple of thoes guys already there. So in my opinion you should rank him now and save yourself some time later in the season. lol

Re: 6A Rankings - 12/20/09 06:38 AM

Chief

A lesson please.
Ranking all these boys has to be a really difficult job. How do you come up with #1) indivudal weight rankings, is it last years records only or their career records etc. #2) how do you figure school rankings. Like Goddard has 8 in the weight rankings, and Derby i think has 9. so do you just count up who has more and thats their rank? i know i know just call me stupid.

Thank you
Posted By: Chief Renegade

Re: 6A Rankings - 12/20/09 08:22 PM

Individual rankings are updated on current results. As we move further into the season, last years results are less important. If there are no head-to heads or commons then last years state bracket performance is helpful. The team rankings involve assigning points to each ranked wrestler in a declining scale. I also try to factor in scoring wrestlers that may not place.
Posted By: wrestling67

Re: 6A Rankings - 12/21/09 12:00 AM

So, do you go by wins/losses? If thats the case how many #1 ranked wretlers have 2 or more losses as per several others with undefeated records?
Posted By: Chief Renegade

Re: 6A Rankings - 12/21/09 12:13 AM

Be specific Mel. State your criteria. You know the drill.
Posted By: doug747

Re: 6A Rankings - 12/21/09 12:18 AM

If you have a kid that has only lost to studs in good matches, and another kid that is undefeated, but has only wrestled fish, the kid that lost to the studs in close matches would get the nod most likely.

Most of the time it is common sense stuff. There are some kids stepping it up that will start to pop up in the rankings. Don't get too worked up over a ranking. The cream always rises to the top.

How did Garden and Dodge City move up so much in team rankings? Just a question. Where was Garden at this past weekend?
Posted By: jcfd51nelson

Re: 6A Rankings - 01/14/10 03:51 AM

Chief, please do not consider 130 Ristau or 160 Euring in the rankings for the remainder of the season. Other kids deserve to be recognized. Ristau was going to be a finalist but is moving out of state. Euring was going to be a finalist but life happens. Don't count us out of bringing back a trophy though.

GC added 4 wrestlers to the rankings this week. 125/140/152 and 171. DC added their 145.

GC won the Maize tournament without Dozier. He was sick.

Re: 6A Rankings - 01/14/10 01:58 PM

BREAKDOWN BY REGION:

Wichita Northwest Regional
6 Ranked Teams / 36 Ranked Individuals

Manhattan Regional
3 Ranked Teams / 24 Ranked Individuals

SM West Regional
1 Ranked Team / 11 Ranked Individuals

OP-BVW Regional
0 Ranked Teams / 11 Ranked Individuals

Its time to go to two 16 man regionals and split up these top two regions. Take top 8 from each Region to state!
Posted By: HEADUP

Re: 6A Rankings - 01/14/10 04:00 PM

if you did that 4a wouldn't have anything to complain about. lol. not a bad idea, how would you suggest splitting them. it looks like geographically things would be the same. then again it's just 1 year.
Posted By: M.Church_AD

Re: 6A Rankings - 01/14/10 05:21 PM

Pair up one west region with one east region... make a 16 man bracket... Take top 8 in each Region. At state pair up

1-8
2-7
3-6
4-5
1-8
2-7
3-6
4-5

Roy Oeser has submitted this plan every year at Regionals for as long as I can remember... Only part I had different was pairing up a west with an east region.

Might be interesting too see how it works out....

With Ruiz dropping to #3, Royal dropping to #3 and Ristau moving, JC took a hit. You agree?
Posted By: Stand Up King

Re: 6A Rankings - 01/21/10 07:49 PM

I agree with Ristau leaving it did hurt, but if you remember correctly, we were ranked 4th coming into the season with out him. We have beat both Goddard and DOdge City head up in every weight class but 3 with each team. So while some individuals dont have weak moments, it shouldnt discredit the talent on the team. I understand you have a hard job, im just asking questions. Like why Matt Reed is aove Royal? But in reality it doesnt matter too much. He will see Reed at the end of this month and it will settle that. Oh well...Thank you for your time.
Posted By: Chief Renegade

Re: 6A Rankings - 01/21/10 07:58 PM

I have seen both Reed and Royal and believe Reed has the edge. I thought Royal was going to 160? He looks a bit undersized at 71, although definitely stronger than last year.

Royal is a great kid. He told a friend of mine that he is very under-weight for being a 71 pounder.

And, Reed beat him at the JC tourney. What critera would have Royal have over Reed? Just a discussion.

I want Royal to be the CHAMP this year. ;-)

Re: 6A Rankings - 02/15/10 06:29 PM

How is it that Blue valley west is ranked 10th as a team? According to the rankings they only have 1 wrestler ranked! I've been crunching a few numbers and can't seem to figure out how they score any team points with one placer.
Posted By: Chief Renegade

Re: 6A Rankings - 02/15/10 06:43 PM

How did those numbers crunch when they scored 142 points in the BVNW tourney? They beat STA, GE and many others. You can go 2-2 at state and not place.
Posted By: wrestlerguy

Re: 6A Rankings - 02/15/10 06:54 PM

Just trying to figure out how your team ranking system works. Blue valley will have 2 in the finals with madel (sp) probably winning it. That seems like it would score more points then a handful of guys advancment points on the back side of the bracket.
Posted By: Chief Renegade

Re: 6A Rankings - 02/15/10 07:04 PM

Blue Valley scored 62 points in the BVNW tourney. With Pearch they might have scored 90. BVW scored 142 with only one champion at 160.
Posted By: BVWJAGS

Re: 6A Rankings - 02/15/10 09:25 PM

BVWest will likely have a minimum of 7 kids make it to state and strong possibility to have as many as 10. Out of those, seven will be returning state qualifiers. True they may not have any champions, but there is a good possibility that at least two of those kids will place top six as they will probably win their region and get a 1 seed and depending on the brackets could have some others place. Their team stength the past couple of years lies in their depth.

Posted By: wrestle007

Re: 6A Rankings - 02/16/10 05:26 AM

fair enough. what are the rules on his elibility for regionals and state? or is this a confidential matter?
Posted By: wrestlingparents

Re: 6A Rankings - 02/16/10 12:15 PM

KHSSA has a rule that states to be eligible for post season, you have to be a member of the team for the majority of the varsity schedule. When Lucas came back to wrestting, he would have been at 50%. An appeal was made to Rick Bowden along with a doctor's letter and the orginal doctor's note saying no practice for 4 weeks....KHSSA said they do not have the power to over ride the rule. There still is the option of filing an injuction. This would enable him to continue to wrestle until it plays out in court. Which would surely exceed the time through the state tournament. Lucas made the decision not to do this as he felt it would make him look like a whinner, and he said he is not one. So unless a miracle happens in the next couple of days, Lucas has wrestled for the last time in the state of Kansas.
Also we would like the thank the people who took time to write letters supporting Lucas being able to wrestle post-season, including the Wichita Northwest Coach.
Posted By: wrestle007

Re: 6A Rankings - 02/16/10 12:53 PM

i'm sorry to hear about that as lucas is a great wrestler and certainly would have added to the state tournament. best of luck to him, you have a class kid.
Posted By: Chief Renegade

Re: 6A Rankings - 02/16/10 01:50 PM

What a class act Eric Prichard is for writing a supporting letter on behalf of Lucas. I applaud both he and Trey Page for that unique act of sportsmanship!

In the 2008 state tournament the brackets show that Boaz Beard went into the state tournament with a 6-0 record. What is the difference in Lucas Vincent's current situation?
Posted By: wrestlingparents

Re: 6A Rankings - 02/16/10 02:40 PM

Vince, I do not know the situation but he could have been hurt and still in the wrestling room so there as considered "a member of the team." Since Lucas did not think his injury would allow him to wrestle at all this year, he was not "considered a memeber of the team."
I would be interested in knowing the Beard situation? Anyone?

That is probably true about Boaz's situation two years ago unless it was a mistake about his record on the state bracket. I just remembered seeing Boaz's record on the state brackets two years ago and it is still showing it was 6-0 going into the 2008 tournament. It would make sense though that if Boaz was injured that it should not have counted against him in determining if he was eligible for the state tournament.

The final Pre-State 6A Rankings are posted!

www.kansaswrestling.org

Understand that these rankings ARE NOT state predictions! In many cases the top ranked wrestlers are on the same side of the bracket.

I want to thank EVERYONE for all of the criteria info. Rankings are only as good as the input and some of the most pointed posts turned out to be great info. Certainly many rankings have been determined by personal opinion and have taken match and health conditions into consideration.

This year went FAST. I can only hope that they have added to the fun and excitement of what I think is one of the greatest wrestling states in the nation.

State brackets are set. Toe the line and let it rip. Let the REAL rankings begin!
