Re: Valley Center December Duals - 11/30/10 05:09 PM

Whatever the circumstances, Coaches Alley & Church must do whatever it takes to insure that Gentzler and DeShazer wrestle each other if these two teams meet. No football excuses, no juggling in the spirit or alleged spirit of "Doing what is best for the team"...

These two wrestlers will not have an opportunity to meet again the remainder of the season. Take the politics and excuses out of the story and let them decide one on one who is the best 130lber in the state. Please take the monkey off of the Chief's back!

Lets get it on!

Doesnt Daniel have to take a mandatory week off? Or am I confused.

Re: Valley Center December Duals - 12/01/10 04:24 PM

You are confused. Why would he have to take a mandatory week off?

Re: Valley Center December Duals - 12/01/10 04:55 PM

I would not expect to see a Gentzler and DeShazer match.

It seems in the past Heights has focused on the end of the year and not the beginning. Why get all banged up in December when you want to wrestle your best in Feb?
Posted By: Chief Renegade

Re: Valley Center December Duals - 12/01/10 05:51 PM

A six minute match would not necessarily mean getting all banged up. It is certainly understandable that DeShazer will only have had a few practices but being an elite athlete, I'm sure he would compete well.

It is the only chance these two might collide. Yet with the separate pools, their teams may not even meet.

To be clear, Daniel DeShazer is the #1 130 pounder in Kansas.

Re: Valley Center December Duals - 12/02/10 03:35 AM

OK, you guys have heard it. Don't worry about doing what is best for your team, put your focus on seeing this "one" match on saturday.

All that needs to happen is for all the schools in Heights pool and those in Centrals pool forfiet to us. That way we can be assured of having "this match of the season" in the first week of competition. Church, you in agreement? I can't understand why the other coaches wouldn't want to see it also. See you in the finals Church, done deal.

Guys, its the first week of the season. I would love to see that match also, but as my wrestlers know, I will not sacrifice the success of the team for one match. If it helps the "TEAM" I bump and always have. Many times over the years I have had wrestlers mad at me for bumping them up against an opponent where they lost a close match and our JV guy won the match at his weight. It produced a result of helping the team win. It taught them that sometimes you sacrifice your position in life to help someone else. Not a bad principle to learn in a world of self gratification.

I don't think Daniel or Jake have any intentions of ducking quality opponents and I know Church as myself have a job of building a team as well as developing individuals. If it happens, I'll enjoy it as much as anyone, but I'll also be counting team points before we ever get to the match.

Oh, I also don't have a problem with Chief carrying that monkey around. I've enjoyed and appreciated his work in the rankings even though I'm sure its a heavy load.

Re: Valley Center December Duals - 12/02/10 04:45 AM

Coach Church privately gave me 50 lashes with a wet noodle as well. The only way your two teams meet is if you are in the placing round. The sport is in dire need of publicity and support. The best way to create that is with interest and fan appeal. No one cares which coach is the better genious at jockeying guys around so that they get a mismatch or perhaps gain one or two team points. Most fans don't care which team wins but ALL fans like to see a marquee match up of two division 1 level opponents. This point cannot be argued. The dual meet tournament only exists to squeeze the most matches out of the precious few competition points KSHSAA rations out. In Kansas, wrestling is WAY more about the individual than it is about the team. See KSHSAA State TournamentS for Wrestling... NO DUAL team championship.

It is unfortunate it is the first week of the season but when so few quality match ups exist throughout the season I think the chance should be exploited! Dap is going 135, bump Jake up and make it work. Put the pressure on Church to make the decision.

"Dap is going 135"

Sorry coach Alley...your out now.. Everybody has to forfiet to Emporia and Heights now so we can see the DeShazer vs Charbonneau.

Re: Valley Center December Duals - 12/02/10 02:46 PM

Well if those 2 are not going to wrestle then why should anyone even go to watch. I'm thinking about not even taking OUR TEAM now since we can't show up to watch that 1 quality match. Oh Yeah we were supposed to compete as well (SARCASM). I think that there will be plenty of great wrestling at this event and it runs smooth. It may not live up to the "quality" standards of others, but it is a top notch dual tournament and Coach Shelton and VC do a great job putting it on. Look at the list above of all the ranked wrestlers in attendance. Which other first week tournament in KS can top this one?

Re: Valley Center December Duals - 12/02/10 02:47 PM

Chief...Here is another one you might like. Deshazer will either go 135 all year or pull to 125 at some point... Just a 'guess' but I don't think you will see DeShazer at 130 during Regionals or State.

Re: Valley Center December Duals - 12/02/10 05:24 PM

My call is 35 a few tournaments and then 30.

You are right this is probably the toughest when you look at the teams that are going! I also think Gardner is right there with it because of the out of state teams that are there as well as the amount of ranked kids. Omaha-Burke is always tough and this year Platte County will be there! I looked up their 125 pounder, Skyler Wood, on Flowrestling and he is very tough! The 152# bracket is going to be a good one as well with the top 2 ranked kids in the state going head to head.

It would be awesome if next year VC could bring in some tough out of state teams to see how our teams compare!

Re: Valley Center December Duals - 12/02/10 06:47 PM

Skyler is bumping to 130 to wrestle Mario and others. He is absolutely the real deal. One of the best on his feet I have seen. A state champ in MO as a FR and SO. now back as a JR. Also multiple Fargo placer....

Most of us understood that many of the Heights wrestlers were up a weight.

Re: Valley Center December Duals - 12/05/10 07:21 PM

One correction to the results was at 119 in round 1 Ty Kolterman WBF over Metzler from Derby. Great Dual Tournament, the Dual between Clay Center and Wichita Heights was a great dual and both teams split matches 7 and 7. The crowds were cheering loud from both sides and good sportsmanship between both squads made it an exciting dual to be a part of. Nice job Coach Church.

Not to be rude, but Daniel Beat Heinicker 9-7
Scoring:
1st Period
Deshazer TD-2
Heinicker E-1
Deshazer TD-2
Heinicker E-1

2nd Period
Heinicker E-1
Deshazer TD-2
Heinicker E-1

3rd Period
Deshazer RV-2
Heinicker E-1
Heinicker TD-2
Deshazer E-1

Deshazer wins 3 Takedowns, 1 Reversal, and an Escape (9) to 5 Escapes and a Takedown (7).

And Thanks Brandon... It was a little different going 4-1 and taking 5th but that is life! It's called the December duals for a reason... Because it's not February smile

What weight is the Reed kid from Heights going to settle at? He wrestled at both 71 and 89 it looked like and unless I missed it, went undefeated too.

Re: Valley Center December Duals - 12/06/10 03:15 AM

According to his coach, 160.

He will be at 160, 171 or 189....

Re: Valley Center December Duals - 12/06/10 12:52 PM

I'm thinking whatever weight he goes at he should do extremely well if he keeps it up!
