Very good job moving Chandler Gordon to the four spot at 6A 120. He looked like a man on a mission last weekend. As I stated in another post, Dulgarian is the real deal. Gordon was the only one in a very tough bracket (Pre-Season #6 in 6A goes 0-5) who gave him a match.

Do you have any idea when 5A Updated Rankings will be finalized?

What matters as far as rankings are concerned is where you are at the end of the State Tournament!

The class rankings are scheduled to be updated every Tuesday during the season with the final ranking on the Tuesday prior to State.

Lindlair has wrestled 113 for the past two weeks. Does he plan on staying down there?

I plan to rank him at 113.

Hey Chief, I have never heard of him before, but Mike Kenny from Olathe east wins JCC at 113Lbs! He has got to be ranked.

I am somewhat confused about how wrestlers are ranked. I don't know or understand as much as I should about this sport, but to rank a wrestler with a record of winning less than half of his matches seems a little out of balance! This is especially true when a wrestler who has a 17 - 6 record with a win this year over the ranked wrestler hasn't been considered in the ranking process. Even more so when the wrestler not considered has wins over the #3-5A wrestler, the #5-5A wrestler, the #5-6A wrestler and the #6-4A wrestler all this season. His only losses in Kansas are to the #1-6A wrestler, the #1-4A wrestler, the #4-6A wrestler and one loss to a wrestler who has been ranked but is not at this time. To my knowledge the ranked wrestler in this reply had not defeated another ranked wrestler until this past week. I believe that more accurate records or research should be involved before deserving young men are left out or not even considered!

I think the name of the wrestler you are talking about and the wins he has would be better than a post that does not provide examples. Granted, sometimes mistakes are made in rankings but A LOT of time is spent doing them. Also, making a point why a wrestler should be ranked is great, but making a point about why a kid should not be is pushing it. Obviously if a kid is ranked he has done some work to justify it. mtc.

Seeing that you are a former highschool coach for 17 years and a former highschool official who worked 25 Kansas State Tournaments, I am a little surprised by the lack of detail in your post. I did eventually realize who you are talking about.

Yesterday, my friend sent me info about your wrestler, Jacob Wilgers from Maize. The information was sent to me after the 6A rankings had been released. I appreciated the info and told him that I would use that for the next 6A update.

Having said that, Garrett Girard is wrestling much better these last two weeks. Their match on 1/7 was a 2-0 match! Girard has 9 losses at 120 pounds. He is 12-6 at 113. He has lost to Wilgers 2-0, 2X to Cheney, Vieyra in OT 1-0 and to Perez 2-1 and one other. I now understand that Wilgers has beaten Girard, Jones, Fields and Perez. I also know that he lost 8-1 to McCray.

At the end of the day, the more information that I can get, the better.

Thank you for the time you spend promoting Kansas wrestling! My concern was not the amount of time put in. Many years ago a very bright man told me that "Time spent and work attempted does not always equal Quality".

And if the Chief was getting paid for his efforts, we could then expect something close to perfection. His volunteer time,not just on these rankings, has done a lot to promote kansas wrestlers/wrestling. Quit being an idiot about it, and just tell Chief names, matches, criteria, etc. You're the one looking like a fool, not Chief. A private message also would have saved you from looking like a fool.

And sometimes it is best to just keep your pie hole shut and let wrestlers wrestle. If you need a piece of paper with a ranking on it, I am sure someone could print it off for you.

Ex-heights Coach- I look forward to your rankings soon. As you seem to feel like Chief's rankings are not to your standards.

Ex-Heights coach...maybe that same smart man should have told you, "don't look a gift horse in the mouth". If you really think you can give more time and a better effort than Chief does on the rankings...then run with it! Oh yeah, don't forget to sprinkle quality on top of it. It's one thing to send criteria to back up an arguement, or even to question in a courteous manner, but it is a completely different thing to be insulting. I wouldn't know Chief if I ran into him but appreciate his efforts that give me...a wrestling dad...something to chew on each week.

And since one of the rules of this forum is to give your name whenenver you type a disparraging remark, I suggest you sign your submissions, or instead just stick to one that reads insteads of posts.

The bottom line is this, Chiefs rankings are only as good as the input is from fans and coaches. He can't cover every single match in two days. Just PM him if your kid has criteria to be ranked!!

Isn't a recent head to head win the first "criteria" that is looked at when ranking wrestlers? The other loss that Girard has is to Whitson from Emporia (who Wilgers has beaten twice). Has Girard wrestled Mccray (from Heights)? Your extraordinary efforts with the rankings are not being questioned here. I am just trying to understand how you make your decisions. Thanks.

When comparing just two wrestlers, head to head is the first criteria. When you add others to the mix it becomes tougher. As an example, if we were comparing McCray to Wilgers, McCray would be ranked higher. He has other losses that change that decision.

The bottom line here is that I received the criteria information AFTER the release of the KWCA 6A Rankings. As of now, after looking at all the criteria, I WOULD rank Wilgers ahead of Girard. We have wrestling action this weekend and the next release date is next Tuesday.

If the definition of a fool is to question and to state accurate facts, then I qualify as a fool, and will always be one.

OK, this has eaten at me all day so just as you all have defended the chief, I am going to defend the old man. First of all, Mr. Ex Heights Coach is no fool and he was not being an idiot. The name calling was not necessary. He most certainly has been around the sport of wrestling longer than anyone on this talk forum and maybe in this entire state. What he did was state facts and question a decision to not rank a seemingly deserving young man. I've seen others do it many times. Some of YOU have done it. Could he have mentioned names? Yes! However, he did not feel it was appropriate to call out any names of kids of the forum. It wasnt about negating any accomplishments. Could he have PM'd the chief? Yes! If he knew what that was and how to do it! Wilgers had already been mentioned in a somewhat derogatory comment by chief once earlier in the forum regarding a win he had over another wrestler. It insinuated that the other wrestler must not be as good as originally thought because he lost to Wilgers. Mr.Ex Heights Coach was trying to keep names out and clarify the general evaluation process. "Who he is" would be his decision to officially reveal but I can tell you that it is no secret to anyone that has been around high school wrestling for any length of time. Good Luck to all wrestlers this weekend! All of them are hard working and deserving of our praise.

Nice post gymmom I agree 100%. After seeing the venomous reactions to ex-coaches original post, I went back and reread it, to see what justified the harsh reactions from the chief and the tag-a-longs. What I read was a fact based, concise, to the point post. It was clear to me that he was diplomatically avoiding naming any names to keep from ruffling any feathers(we all see how that worked out!). What I didn’t see was a personal attack on anyone!
I guess we should all just ignore the fact that Ex-Coach had a legitimate argument and angrily tell him, he is a fool, and we are waiting for him to make up is own rankings!

Totally disagree, with all due respect. The post was definitely derogatory and it attacked the rankings and the ranker. Your tag-a-long comment was totally derogatory as well. There are no tag-a-longs to Chief. That's like saying that Keith Richards is a tag-a-long to Mick Jagger, or that Doc Holliday was a tag-a-long to Wyatt Earp, or that Mike Gundy was a tag-a-long to Barry Sanders, or that Rudolph is a tag-a-long to Santa Claus, or that the Disciples were tag-a-longs to Jesus Christ, get it. You have no idea how much time (non paid) Eric Johnson puts into doing the ranking. Again, as was stated if you guys feel you can do better by all means do it. Until then, teach Ex Heights Coach to PM Chief and accept that the rankings can change.

If your going to throw punches on a public forum than expect them to come back your way.

AJ Hurtado Didn't place and Garden City and moved to number 1

Correct. He moved to #1 at 132 after Randolph lost. He lost to undefeated Martinez from CO and to Dakin in OT in that bracket. They also added #2 ranked Heiman at 160. That's an add of 20 points.

132 is pretty hard to figure, Everyone is beating each other up from week to week in 5 and 6a anyway

Just curious, at 6-A 113 has Haug wrestled any of the ranked wrestlers other than Morrow?

Yes he lost to Garcia in week 2 14-7. Lost to WR first match of the year then again two weeks ago in ot with a very questionable call at the end of reg.

As 311fan noted, Freislinger won in OT against Haug and then beat Trey Nelson from Staley (MO) in OT the next match at the ON Duals Tournament. He is having a nice Senior campaign and has always used his length to his advantage.

That Haug/Freislinger OT match was a good one!

Freislinger won his 24th straight match last night against SMNW. He hasn't lost since the SMNW finals against Garcia (0-1). He is having a very nice senior campaign indeed!

Who are Dylan's losses to?

The kid from Campus pinned Young at a tourny 4 Feb and Young beat Griffen 7-2 last Thursday.

I did see the Crump/Young result. What are Dylan's other losses?

Next Tuesday will be the last official KWCA ranking release of the season. The podium will reflect the REAL rankings!

I think his only other lose was to Tyler Keller during the GWAL tournament this last weekend. Griffin didn't wrestle due to disciplinary reasons, so they bumped Keller up.

Just to make a correction here. It is Dillon Young. We tried last year and this year to get them to change the name. We got shuffled around.
