What a nice and awesome post you wrote above. That makes it even harder to be a 'wet blanket' but here goes. . . I'll go ahead and ask the question that those of us that don't know, want to know.

Who did he lose to and what was the score? Any details on that match?

Re: 100 Wins - 02/06/12 05:17 PM

Can someone enlighten me on the 100th win Celebration. I'm somewhat new to all the milestones in Wrestling. My son reached his 100th win and we forgot to celebrate. For him, it's all about winning the State Title in his weight class and school division. Without the State Championship, he feels, his work would have been in vein.

Please educate me on the 100th win thing.
Posted By: ReDPloyd

Re: 100 Wins - 02/06/12 10:43 PM

There are a lot of wrestlers that have aspirations of standing on the top of the podium at State, but many of them won't get there. There is no shame in wrestling the best you can and still not achieving this goal. As for the 100 win mark, I do believe that is something to be proud of. Although wrestlers today get a lot more matches than we used to, it is still a crowning achievement. I don't have the statistics, but my guess is that less than fifteen or twenty percent of wrestlers in high school (I am talking Kansas) reach that mark today after a high school career. If you finish top fifteen to twenty percent in your high school class for grades after four years, that is an accomplishment, and there are a lot fewer students you are competing against in your graduating class than there are that wrestle high school in the state of Kansas.

Re: 100 Wins - 02/06/12 10:48 PM

Back to then versus now, I believe that Matt Treaster from Beloit finished 125-2 with four State Championships while he was in high school. Now that is an awesome achievement. It still doesn't negate the accomplishment of wrestlers today that get 100+ wins and never win a State Championship.

Really...I guess you are right, if a kid is not good enough to win state they just quit now and maybe work on their marching band skills. I hope if your kid does not win state he will not be ashamed of the money he has cost you pursuing his goal. And, it's not really a celebration for the kid, its just proud parents, choaches and fans making a statement. And, as Coach Mock has been an important part of Jared's summers it nice to hear from him.

Thanks for that information. I never thought of it that way. I think I owe my son an appology for not recognizing his accomplishment. It just never accurd to me until I read some of you guys comments on this site.

Thanks for the enlightenment. I need to step my game up smile

Re: 100 Wins - 02/07/12 03:11 PM

Mr. Johnson my inquiry was not to offend! My son had never really mention anything about his 100 win. He is only focus on one thing. I do hope that he understands that without it, he has had a fantastic career and will continue that career on the next level. I just think it was overlook and I wanted to make sure that I wasn't missing something, which it appears that I was.

Congrates to all who have achieve this accomplishment, my son included!

Re: 100 Wins - 02/07/12 07:08 PM

Brent Juenemann of Oberlin also got his 100th win on January 28th at the Western Kansas Tournament of Champions. What an accomplishment for all wrestlers!!

Re: 100 Wins - 02/08/12 12:12 AM

My mistake. I think the 100 win thing is more about us (parents) then the kids. My son wouldn't have known if I hadn't told him, you should see his math grades, you would know that is true. But, my son's freshman year a father from Perry put a good post about his son's 100th win that I still remember. There is something about a kid just doing his best and accomplishing all he can that a 100 wins represents.

Re: 100 Wins - 02/08/12 12:20 AM

My son got his 100th career win last season in the semi finals at state but was denied his 101st win in the finals so it was kind of hard to celebrate his 100th. He is at 129 but now he only wants to celebrate one thing.

I hear you loud and clear parent.
My son has well over a 100 wins but he only cares about 1 win, the 1 in the finals at state. He was 3rd last year and 5th the year before so he cares about nothing but 1st this year. He is pretty much in that if you aint 1st your last mode right now. I of course don't agree with that. He has had a wonderful high school wrestling career, one to truly be proud of. He has represented his family, team, school and God with great honor and distinction. He has scored a lot of points for his team and school over the last 4 years and everyone should be incredibly proud of him and his efforts and he should be proud of himself. I am sure the same can be said for your son. I know that my son doesn't really see it the same way and I understand why although I don't necessarily agree with the if you aint 1st your last thing. But it does drive him so I guess that is good. It sounds like your son and mine are a lot alike and have a lot in common. Anyway, we/he are/is planning on winning that last match but what ever happens, 1 loss won't be the measure of my son's high school career, I won't let it be. It's that 130 some odd wins that will be.
100 wins is a big deal, so celebrate it.
