Re: Bobcat 2012!!! - 01/06/12 04:38 AM

Wish we were going to be there, the top 4 at 145 will be interesting and probably very exciting...Watch the BLS kid at 138, an incredible spladel (seriously, its the best)' my son has spent a along time trying to figure it out... the depth at 152 and 160 appear incredible ...and then you get to watch Omari at 192... the potential Dulgarian/Perkins and a Olsen/Shoemaker matches and then there is Bo Pursel and Levi and then there is 285...I guess Will will not get to complain about people leaving early..who wouldn't stay to watch those top weights...Sorry Ed, but with these match ups, no one is noticing Spencer......Say hi to the Victory people for me.......!!!!

Guys, the match of the tournament should be at 132, with Bo Pursel and Skylar Wood both three time state champs, I hope they make the finals and we get to watch that. The others are great matchups but that is the match of the tournament.

Looks to be a good bit of scrapping.

Re: Bobcat 2012!!! - 01/06/12 04:33 PM

A lot of very exciting possible match ups for sure. I'd like to see Dulgarian in that 126lb bracket!

Good luck to all wrestlers, I can't wait for this one!

Did you start the weekend a little early John?

Re: Bobcat 2012!!! - 01/06/12 07:55 PM

If Perkins is heathy (shoulder)it won't be close at 120. Who is Moody from Oklahoma ?
Posted By: Chief Renegade

Re: Bobcat 2012!!! - 01/06/12 08:13 PM

Christian Moody from Collinsville, OK. He placed at Tulsa Union.

Re: Bobcat 2012!!! - 01/06/12 08:28 PM

I am always pulling for a Kansas kid, I hope Dulgarian beats him.

Re: Bobcat 2012!!! - 01/07/12 03:58 AM

126:
#1 - Lewis - BLS
#1 - Harding - OK
#1 - Schumacher - TMP
#1 - Olsen - LS
#2 - Apodaca - MR
#2 - Shoemaker - BAL
#5 - Tolliver - PC
#5 - Wagner - ACC
#6 - Tujague - SJA

Best bracket by far. Winner should be automatic OW. Harding will want a match to show Lewis he should have been the champ at the KC Classic. We might get a Schumacher vs Shoemaker match! There is going to be excitement and disappointment in this one.

106:
#1 - Jeffries - OK
#1 - Teaney - OP
#1 - Cokeley - SJA
#1 - Leach - GD
#2 - Henes - STA
#4 - Eck - AN
#5 - Barmann - PC
#5 - Kester - PT
#6 - Seaton - BS
#6 - Bowen - ACC

2nd Toughest bracket. Jeffries is a 5X Tulsa Nationals Champ, double AA at Fargo this past summer, and fresh off a runner up finish at the KC Classic and Tulsa Union Mid America Nationals.

Hate to disagree with the STA Assistant but Bo and Skylar are WAY too familiar with each other to be the match of the night. I don't expect to see either of them opening up much. It will be a battle of defense and determination. Go BO!

There will be lots of great matchups even BEFORE the finals. Semis will be awesome. Some quarters are going to be tough!

WOW!!! Harding Seeded 4th. Could make for a heck of a quarter final match with Bryce and a possible semi final match with Dylan, whoever meets in the semi finals could be one of the matches of the tournament. Good luck to all.

Does anyone know why Lambotte forfieted to Blackwell?

Lambotte was defeated by Boerner in quarter, I'm pretty sure. No forfeit.

Re: Bobcat 2012!!! - 01/14/12 11:36 PM

must have been a hell of a move---couldn't see because the ref was in front of the camera--a very common situatrion throughout the early matches. Surely the camera crews could talk to the reefs and ask that they try to not block the camera. Also, a learning point for B/L, do not use a black or green mat for a televised event. The dark mat sucks all the light up!

Re: Bobcat 2012!!! - 01/15/12 04:09 AM

I think all of the wrestlers and coaches did an awsome job. The referees on the other hand did a terrible job in my opinion. I thought they were very inconsistent with their stall calls and their stalemates. Probably the wost officiating performance at this tournament in the last 3 or 4 years.
Posted By: BrandonPigorsch

Re: Bobcat 2012!!! - 01/15/12 04:22 AM

I agree on the inconsistency statement, but you are going to find that at most if not all high school tournaments you go to in Kansas and some surrounding states. I thought the whole crew we had for the Bobcat was a good one and i would not have selected any others except for the lead ref in the 152 final (Awful). Long tournament with a lot of tough matches so nice job officials on a an awesome weekend.

Brandon, I am going to post the finals or a lot of them, including that one on the Bobcat Facebook page. I am converting them right now.

I am biased, but I liked the Heavyweight match and the outcome. Caleb King in his third year of wrestling, and had a 7-21 record two years ago has come a long way. Also has a common, over Broc Bennet.

I agree with Outlaw. Some very good wrestling but some very poor officiating. The only thing they were consistent on was being inconsistent. Out of bounds, stalemates, stallings......I could go on. I am not talking about different refs on different matches even. I am taking about the same ref(s) in the same match. Make the call one way and turn around and call it differently later in the match. Of course I am talking about a handful of them and not all of them, but the ones that were bad, were terrible! The wrestlers deserve better.

Saw only the finals on the internet (810Varsity.com). Good coverage except awfull dark and refs kept getting between the wrestlers and the camera. Announcers out of synch on scores and calls several times. Plus I now know more about Kids wrestling than I need to know!!

Saw what I thought was some good, new stuff from Kansas refs. Much quicker on the stall warning and stall call--even saw a warning or a call for a wrestler staying on the outer ring while the other wrestler had his back to and near the inner circle. Seems they were quicker to call stalemate and get the wrestlers back to wrestling. Better and more wrestling. Another great Classic--at least the finals. Tuff, tuff competition!!!!

Bo was in true form coming back to get the win at 132. Both Shoemaker and Olsen looked good and had a great weekend. Has anyone posted the OW for the Bobcat? Alot of great matches!

Re: Bobcat 2012!!! - 01/17/12 02:02 AM

I've been on this forum several times before, complaining about announcers not getting names correct. I know it isn't that big of a deal, but I would hope that they would ask if they didn't know how to pronounce names correctly. This is going to embarrass Tyler Mies, but please let's get it right. It is Mies, as in Mees, not Mize, Mice, Miles, etc..........

Bobcat guy didn't do too bad with the rest of the names, but if the Salina 4a state guy butchers the names like he has, I might have to go take the microphone from him..............

There, that is off of my shoulders............

Doug747...you bring up a good point. In the case of some of the webcast matches, the announcers are not professionals, which is ok. I'm just grateful for the coverage. But please, please, please pronounce the names correctly. It takes little effort...just ask a coach or fan. Incorrectly pronouncing names should never happen.

I am the "Bobcat guy". Sorry if we got that wrong. If you tell me we got it wrong I would have been happy to have done it differently. We didn't realize that was happening. I assure you we would not have if we had known. I assume you mean me, the announcer at the meet. We have families here by that name and they pronounce it that way. Sorry if we insulted you.

Re: Bobcat 2012!!! - 01/17/12 04:13 PM

Well you need to tell those people that they have been pronouncing their own names wrong all of these years.

You are right, we should have walked over after the first time and just said something, but we actually get a kick out of it. Surprised you didn't hear us hollering "MEES", but not a big deal.

Again, the main objective of mine is to hint around that the Salina 4a announcer needs glasses, pronunciation skills classes, or to just ask. All BS aside, I'll say he got half of the names wrong last year. It was funny at first, then it got aggravating.

Re: Bobcat 2012!!! - 01/17/12 06:20 PM

Next time if there is a problem, let your coach know, he is a friend of mine and he can let me know. Over the last eleven years we have called out about three thousand names. Occasionally we get one wrong. We don't hear anything that anyone is yelling in the crowd so it takes someone coming down and letting us know. We make mistakes like everyone does but I assure you, my goal is to do the best we can for the kids. The Andale kids have been wonderful competitors at this tourney and no way would I ever want to insult any of them or you guys. My apologies.

At least he can get the name of your town right! We have been Cobey or Kobe (like the basketball player) at the State Tournament for the last couple of years. laugh

Doug:
I agree with you about the 4A State Tournament. The situation was addressed in the 4A State tournament planning meeting and should be fixed this year.

Re: Bobcat 2012!!! - 01/17/12 07:14 PM

You get accustomed to it! I get a kick out of how they try to pronounce my last name when announcing my son at tournaments. Now we just laugh about it and move on, but it did bother my son at first. However I do understand your point about getting it correct at the State Tournament. Many tournaments we attend with the high school team the announcers will come over and get with us if they have a hard time pronouncing a name. I think that is what needs to be done, take pride in your job no matter what you do, and if announcing names is it then go and get help. The kids deserve to have their names pronounced correctly at the State Tournaments or other tournaments for that matter..

Re: Bobcat 2012!!! - 01/17/12 07:19 PM

We have a Boucher (Boo shay), a Kadous (Kay dus), and a Guillen (Gill in) that announcers struggle with so after the first try I usually hand them a phonetic pronunciation and it fixes it at least that day!

I would be in favor of a rule that bans all Slavic foreign exchange students from wrestling in Kansas high schools. Those names can be brutal!

We have a Taiwan foreign exchange student whose last name is Hsiao. Pronounced ( chow ). Luckily he goes by a normal first name...Steve.

My rule would also be, no vowels in the name, they must play ******ball!
