Tyler Gonzales to USA Wrestling - 12/12/14 08:18 PM

Tyler Gonzales (Shawnee Heights/Fort Hays State), most recently a Graduate Assistant Coach at Shorter University in Rome, GA has accepted a position with USA Wrestling in Colorado Springs.

In high school Gonzales was a state champion wrestling for his father, Robert Gonzales and a 2004 National High School Coaches Association Academic All-American . Recognized by Executive Director, Robert Ferraro of NHSCA.

He continued his mat and academic success becoming a three time National Qualifier and two time NWCA Academic All-American for the NCAA Division II FHSU Tigers. Following his collegiate career, Tyler continued on with the Tigers as an assistant before moving on to NJCAA powerhouse Colby CC, where he served as the Assistant Coach for the Trojans. The past two seasons have been spent helping the Shorter U Hawks transition to NCAA Division II. Last year the Hawks completed a successful season with a third place finish at the NCWA National Championships.

Gonzales' official title with USA Wrestling is Coordinator of Events. In a Facebook post he expands on his new position, "I'll be in charge of mainly freestyle & greco events and helping with other events/marketing."

Tyler is the son of Robert and Brenda Gonzales of Topeka, KS.
