Update on Rules Proposals - 12/16/14 04:17 PM

Results of the votes taken at Regional KSHSAA meetings on two rules change proposals are as follows:

#1 The proposal to allow:
A. single-day wrestling tournaments to start before 3:00 p.m. on Friday (two per season per team) and
B. double duals and quads to start at 3:00 p.m. (previously could not start before 4:00 p.m.) Mon-Thu
YES 157 NO 12

#2 The proposal to add a new category of competition to JH/MS wrestling, “the Multi-Team Event", and that count NOT as a tournament (3 competition points) if more four or more schools take part, but that it count as two (2) competition points if: NO team points are kept; NO individual medals are awarded; NO individual or team placings are determined, and a wrestler is restricted to no more than three matches in the event.
YES 81 NO 0

The next step will be for the KSHSAA executive board to consider final action on the proposals at their May meeting. If approved, they will be in effect for the 2015-16 season.

Also of importance to some out there....

EXECUTIVE BOARD APPROVES
NEW TRANSPORTATION POLICY
EFFECTIVE SUMMER 2015

The Executive Board reviewed the vote on the regional meeting
question addressing school owned transportation being used
to transport students to summer athletic events including
camps, 7-on-7, summer league games etc. Following discussion,
the Executive Board voted to modify their current policy
and permit schools to determine whether or not to allow their
school owned transportation to be used to transport students
to these summer activities, effective with the summer of 2015.
Schools proposing the regional meeting question cited the ability
of local schools to determine their own policies as a matter of
local control and felt their ability to serve their students and
manage risks to student safety would be better served by a
change to the policy. Member schools are reminded that the
KSHSAA Catastrophic/Liability Insurance policy does not cover
students traveling to or participating in summer activities of
this kind which are not under the jurisdiction of KSHSAA rules.

Thank you Greg, I really didn't think you would be on board so easily. I really don't think we need to stop everything, but you are correct, I need to be satisfied.
