I saw a lot time outs because of "injuries" at the 5a championships this weekend, is this normal or just abuse of the system?

Hmmm... we're the athletes injured? If yes, I would say no. That's why there is injury time.

This is definitely an abuse of the system. Same kids every match. I wish I was exaggerating but one wrestler called a time out every match. They need to go to college rules of choice if a wrestler calls time out for injury.

I think most of it was blood, except for Deshazer, that was guts.lol

Twas not blood, that would be blood time. It was shoulders, eyes, ribs, knees and anything else that could get them a breather. Injured for one minute and then 100% ready to go.

Sounds like European soccer.

The rules need to change if you call for an injury time out, opponents should be able to choose position, if you are on your back your opponent should get 3 points, and/or at least it should be a stalling call. I would say throwing up would be an exception.

After watching the 5a matches this weekend, they need to change it from "Injury time" to " hang on, i'm in a close match, sucking wind and need a few minutes to catch my breath and grab some water" time.

Beeson, a million dollars say I know which wrestler you are talking about.

Yes, the rule needs changing.

There is already a rule that if a second injury timeout is taken the opponent gets choice of position. You'd be surprised at how many coaches don't know what is going on when we offer them the choice of position after a second injury timeout. Many don't know the rule.

As far as injuries when near-fall criteria are met. If an injury timeout is needed when near-fall criteria is imminent or before the 2 count, then the offensive wrestler gets the 2-point near-fall. If the injury timeout is taken between the 2 count and the 5 count then the offensive wrestler get's the 3 points. If the injury timeout is taken after the 5 count then the offensive wrestler get's a 4-point near-fall.

I've noticed this multiple times over the past several weeks. I do not agree with taking injury time if the wrestler has not been injured. It is very unethical. Coaches are using it as a time out so they can get their wrestler some water and let them catch their breath while they coach them up one on one. It is ridiculous.

I specifically saw it happen in a 3rd place match over the weekend with about a minute left in the match. I won't mention the teams involved but the match was stopped and a penalty point was given due to an illegal hold. The wrestler got back to the center of the mat and got in position on the line, ready to wrestle. The coach then hollered at the wrestler telling him "take injury time! take injury time!" It took the wrestler a few seconds to respond because he was focused on getting the match started again. Once the coach got the attention of the wrestler and ref, injury time was granted. For what? A water break and the opportunity to tell the wrestler exactly what he needed to do.
