Or maybe the committee is delusional

Re: Metro Classic Lineups - 03/02/15 04:27 PM

Will,

There is little "transparency" in the process - Each year someone is frustrated that their guy did not make the cut.

Often it is that the wrestler said, "not interested". Other times a decision had to be made base on critera - Who knows?

I believe the group- who ever that is - makes an effort.

Maybe you need to ask to be on that group Will!

Re: Metro Classic Lineups - 03/02/15 06:55 PM

that is the strangest of the weight jumping around

I like the kid that didnt make weight at 132 signed up for 126.

So much for the theory that we have a 7 lb weight allowance to allow the kids to not have to cut weight for this event.

Why weigh in at all?
Posted By: Cokeley

Re: Metro Classic Lineups - 03/02/15 07:08 PM

Perhaps some past match up results have swayed the decision of whether to compete or not?

I thought the rule was that you could only move down ONE weight class. Matt is a light 170 to begin with.

Last year we put a 138lber out against a 160lb state champ that was perhaps the best wrestler in Missouri and maybe top ten in the country. Don't accuse us of being wrestling experts! smile

back in the day,
I was told he didn't make weight, so maybe I shouldn't have posted that comment and just marked him as DNP. I'm sure if my information is incorrect, I'll hear about it soon enough.

Not sure what happened to him at state this year, but he's gotten 1st, 2nd & 3rd at state in HS, and was the a prohibitive favorite to win this year. Not sure how he's gonna make "126" if he has weight issues, but...

Does anyone know what happen to Seth Pesek @ 195
Posted By: back in the day

Re: Metro Classic Lineups - 03/02/15 08:47 PM

I was surprised to see his name in the first release.

I would imagine that it is injury related. He was sidelined most of the seasons. He is a gutsy young man. Came back in time for regionals.
Posted By: Coach Williams

Re: Metro Classic Lineups - 03/02/15 08:54 PM

Seth decided to back out of this event in order to focus on his school work. He mentioned that he has many things to work on and wants to make sure he receives the best grades possible on them. He is driven to continue his wrestling and academic career at the college level and wants to provide himself with the best possible chance of getting accepted. Best of luck to Team Kansas and Caleb Ward who will be talking Seth's spot.

Re: Metro Classic Lineups - 03/02/15 09:14 PM

Caleb is tough and wrestled the whole season. KS should be adequately represented.

Team Kansas has been selected and had their first practice tonight! All members need a USAW card before the meet!! Clubs can help us out by insuring that they have theirs.

By the way, the committee is delusional!! (but we are medicated)

Re: Metro Classic Lineups - 03/03/15 02:14 PM

Completely overlooked Speer from Doniphan County. I think he may have beaten Ward this year?? He should be wrestling 195 or Bears. Pratt should be wrestling Diblasi. Last year it posted that there was a one weight class move limit. Pratt is a small 170 and he is matched up against Staley's 195?
Posted By: yep yep

Re: Metro Classic Lineups - 03/03/15 02:16 PM

Bears certified for 170, walks around at 183 soak and wet but wrestled 195 for team points.

Ward's 2 losses were to Kelly-Seaman & Langley-Newton.

I was bummed to see Brandon Dofat from Spring Hill missing from the list. Hopefully some college coaches took note this season, that kid has a high ceiling!

Re: Metro Classic Lineups - 03/09/15 06:44 PM

Why is the weight class 138 when you have a 152lb state champ vs a 145lb bronze medalist?

There is a complete lack of process for identifying the Kansas coaches and the rules are bent willy nilly to create any kind of a match up with no focus placed on the most intriguing match ups that the crowed would like to see. I thought the idea was to showcase the best coaches based on recent state performance and the best senior athletes in their weight class? I want to be nice because I have always loved this event but the best KS metro wrestler isn't even wrestling and not due to injury. When was the last time that happened? The whole thing is starting to remind me of the seeding at the Bobcat...

Re: Metro Classic Lineups - 03/11/15 12:15 PM

I counted in the program, overall series record would now be 8 wins for KS, 15 for MO. KS will get em next year.

Great dual last night. Lot of battles & good efforts on both sides.

Kit or anyone else:

Do you know if there is anywhere online that you can find the history of results for this event?

It might be on this website but I am not sure where to find it.

Thank you.

Thank you, Kit. Next year I need to go and get a current program for myself. I wish I had gone this year as it appears that it was an exciting dual to watch. Congratulations to all the wrestlers who participated from both Kansas and Missouri.
