St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Overland Park wishes to announce that Eric Akin has been named wrestling head coach. Best wishes to Coach Akin and the Saints.

Wrestling

Eric Akin is a graduate of Bishop Miege High School where he was a 3-time state champion and holds multiple school records.
After graduating from Miege, Eric went on to attend Iowa State University and wrestle for the Cyclones where he was a 3-Time Big Eight Conference Champion ('92, '93 and '94). Eric was a 4- time NCAA finalist and All-American for the Cyclones ('91, '92, '93, and '94). In 1994 Iowa State University named him the university's "Male Athlete of the Year".
Internationally, Eric has represented Team USA in three World Championships and is an 8-time USA Wrestling National Champion. He won a silver medal at the 2000 World Cup and twice was an alternate on the USA Olympic Team.
Akin is the son of Kansas wrestling icon, John Akin, who founded the legendary East Kansas Wrestling Club where Eric has been active. The East Kansas Wrestling Club has yielded several division one finalists, multiple All-Americans and three Olympic Team alternates.
Eric and his wife, Stephanie have four children.

STA Wrestling Summer Camps
WRESTLING – Grades K-8: Wrestlers will learn basic technique from the neutral position including counters to attacks. Also the down and up position (referee's position) will be covered to help wrestlers with riding and scoring as well as scoring from the down position.
The Saints have won two 5A Kansas State Championships in 2005 and 2007.
Session 1 - Middle School Camp; July 6-9; 6:00-8:00 pm; Grades 6-8;$85 The middle school camp focuses on winning basics and fundamentals of wrestling and is designed for the wrestler with at least 2 years of experience.
Session 2 - Take Down Camp; July 13-16; 6:00-8:00 pm; Grades 4th and up; $85 Wrestlers should have a minimum of two years wrestling experience.
Session 3 - Elementary Camp; July 20-22; Grades 5th and lower; $85 Wrestlers should have 1 year experience

High School Camp
Wrestling: Eric Akin, head coach. Grades 9-12: Camp dates: June 8-11; 6:00-6:00 PM: $75
