Re: Bobcat Classic - 01/17/16 09:06 PM

Bob Cat has been and will continue to be a "Top rated" tourney in Kansas and surrounding areas. Great competition, and good venue. But, am I the only one, who thinks this 2 day tourney, could be ran quicker? Friday, start at 11:30am out at almost 10:00pm. Saturday start at 10:00am out at 8:00pm. Too many long brakes between sessions, with lots of teams who have hours to travel home. IMOP, keep it moving. No reason it couldn't be done earlier on Friday and out by 5:00-6:00 on Saturday.

Spexy most the breaks due kaasha stupid 45 min between matches rule. Lot of wrestling for one day brother

That is not a KSHSAA rule. That is a NFHSA rule. That being said I would like to see how many times that was actually an issue. There are only six mats early and four later. That rule shouldn't be tested.

Re: Bobcat Classic - 01/17/16 10:16 PM

The tournament needs to evolve to a scramble or some format to give all wrestlers at least four matches. Burning four competition points for two matches doesn't get your team the experience it needs. The venue is kind of tight, especially on the south side w four mats. Some good wrestling had to be stopped where the mats are rolled up.

Re: Bobcat Classic - 01/18/16 01:33 AM

Those guys must have been writing down times after matches cause it's fun to keep track of usless information. Probably wasn't an issue but idk I'm guessing

Re: Bobcat Classic - 01/18/16 02:27 AM

Track will put a hold so people can't wrestle. Many of the breaks are also for officials. They cut them back the second day. I too would like to see it broke into pools to make a main bracket, similar to stampede. There are a few tourneys like Ironman and Beast that are straight line bracket, but those are big invite only and you know what you get.

Shut up Travis! Would some delete he's user name trader

Re: Bobcat Classic - 01/19/16 02:24 PM

I could not agree more with Spexy. There were enough officials that you could have taken breaks to eat on a rotation. Way too much down time at this tournament. I love wresting but the length of some of these tournaments is ONE of the reasons it is hard to get numbers for the sport. I still say cutting the weights back to 12 would speed up tournaments and stiffen up the competition. If you think the finals are going to start at 6 then set them for 4 in case you are ahead of time. You can go ahead and start. No reason to ever take a break of more than 10-20 minutes.

Re: Bobcat Classic - 01/20/16 04:48 PM

We have to take the breaks we do partly to keep our table workers happy. We are working with a small dedicated group of workers, and while some of you like working straight through, it kills them that first day. If we short breaked them or wrestled straight through, we would have a real hard time finding anyone to work it. I know coaches and fans don't care about their problems, but we have to. We take the breaks we do for good reasons and Joe spends an enormous amount of time planning. 37 team tournaments are not as simple to run as people think. It might not be for everyone and that's fine, but we've done 16 of them, and we have reasons for the things we do.

At our tournament we can't get all the coaches, officials and workers through the hospitality room line in less than 30 minutes, let alone give them time to eat.
