Seeding for Regionals / State - 01/17/24 08:59 PM

I'd assume, but wanted to confirm, does every regional location rank the wrestlers by the same criteria?

In addition,
At the state level, how does the seating take place?

Yes. Every regional must abide by the same seeding criteria.
At state. The four regional championship will be seeded.

How is KSHSAA going to go about seeding the Regional Champs? Actually, what I’m asking is: how bad is KSHSAA going to screw this up!!

Track wrestling only seeds based on the criteria you give it to seed with. What criteria will they be using?

That I don't know. My guess would be record and prior accomplishments.

From the KSHSAA Wrestling Manual

Regional Seeding: pg. 28:

Regional Seeding Procedures
The purpose of the seeding meeting shall be to seed the wrestlers and to complete the drawings for unseeded wrestlers.
Trackwrestling will be used by all regional host schools. The seeding meeting will be scheduled for the week
of the regional tournaments. The time and place will be set by the tournament managers, on a day and time that is
convenient to all, and so that it prevents loss of instructional school time. Managers should consider the distances
and time requirements involved for all coaches to attend seeding meetings.
The OPC will be used for seeding!
Seeding Criteria
1. Head-to-Head Competition (If two wrestlers have evenly split wins during the season, the wrestler who won the
last match will earn the seed).
2. Record against common opponents.
3. Returning State Champion from the previous year.
4. Returning State Placer from the previous year (2nd trumps 3rd, 4th trumps 5th, etc.).
5. Returning State Qualifier from the previous year.
6. Returning Regional Champion from the previous year.
7. Returning Regional Placer from the previous year (2nd trumps 3rd, etc.)
8. OPC
Forfeits: Include dual match forfeits in record for seeding. OPC will have this.
Records: Contestants with losing records should not be seeded, unless they meet other criteria.
The number of contestants who are seeded may vary from one weight class to the next, but every effort should be
made to treat like situations in a uniform manner. Other unseeded wrestlers in the weight class are then drawn at
random to fill the vacant spots in the brackets.

State Tournament; pg. 35:

Tournament qualifiers are placed in brackets based on a formula established by the KSHSAA.
