Re: Goodland Holiday Classic Pools - 12/16/04 06:05 PM

I would really like to see pool b, if Hendricks, the 189 frosh that was so awsome last year, goes to heavy, the match with Sprigg would be one to remember. That guy was truly unbelievable as a freshman at such a heavy weight, only loss was in the state finals, I heard.

Re: Goodland Holiday Classic Pools - 12/16/04 06:12 PM

I think Hendricks is out for the year with a knee injury that happened during football. I believe his only loss last year was in the semis at state and he got third. Amazing Freshman last year.

Norton radio indicates they will have continuous coverage of today's Goodland Holiday Classic. Link is above. Fig Milan is a KWCA award winning broadcaster so the coverage will be good.

Once on the site click on the "stream with WinAmp" button. Audio is streamed through MusicMatch Jukebox" on my computer.

Re: Goodland Holiday Classic Pools - 12/18/04 11:03 PM

upset of the day (so far) norton moved their 160 lb'r down to wrestle todd kendrick of scott city (ranked 5th) the norton kid is a unranked freshmen who went 1-2 in his one previous varsity tourney (clay center), he came out was leading in points and got the fall in the 3rd period
what a match!

P.S sprigg vs guy miller was an awsomely agressive wrestling match srigg came out on top 6-4

norton 61 scott city 9

Re: Goodland Holiday Classic Pools - 12/18/04 11:23 PM

Norton 61, Scott City 9

Goodland versus Norton in Round 7 in about 10 minutes, announcers seem to be very knowledgable and quality of broadcast, via broadband, is very good.

Re: Goodland Holiday Classic Pools - 12/18/04 11:33 PM

(first)sprigg came out and tried a throw that ended up with miller getting the take down sprigg got an escape, (seccond) miller stands up for a 3-1 lead sprigg shoots for a take down, (third) sprigg stands up for 4-3 lead takes miller down again and miller escapes. 6-4 sprigg

Re: Goodland Holiday Classic Pools - 12/18/04 11:40 PM

hooooeeee that sound like enough movement to go around for four or five normal heavyweight matches! Miller seems do be the great hope of the Beavers right now, so if he lost which of the Scott city guys won?

Re: Goodland Holiday Classic Pools - 12/19/04 02:10 AM

During the day you could hear in on KLOE Goodland am730, if Oberlin had been in the tourney you could have heard it on Oberlin fm stream. NW Kansas may be softening their grip on wrestling dominance in Kansas, but the sport gets more respect there than anywhere else, even if they don't go to Fargo or any of the other "special" events, as a rule. in addition, they tend to produce when the chips are down in folkstyle, as in last years senior nationals, the hyped guys got nothing and the only two placers were NW guys.

Re: Goodland Holiday Classic Pools - 12/19/04 02:26 AM

Hey is the rest of the results posted any place?

Re: Goodland Holiday Classic Pools - 12/19/04 02:37 AM

Wrestling in NW KS is king and the merchants in these small communities shell out a lot of coin to have their teams on the airwaves. Big props to those merchants.

Also agree. Fig Milan is very good. Paints a very clear picture of the match.

KLOE radio usually has old timers Duell and Bahe. Not as good of play by play coverage because they start sharing stories about the good old days, but boy are the stories good and they usually let you know who won the match at some point.

Oberlin's coverage lacks a lot of polish, but certainly worth tuning in for. Do know wrestling and are at several events and that is worth a lot. I think at the NWKL, Beloit, Regionals and State. Plus it is streamed on the net for everyone to hear.

Gabe Jenkins and Mike Manning (aka Mike Holliday) also cover a lot of wrestling on Y102.

Re: Goodland Holiday Classic Pools - 12/19/04 06:07 AM

Our 189 lb'r was not Brandon Cowan, it was TJ Hawkins, a freshaman with very good potential. Brandon Cowan broke the small bone in his ankle last weekend and will be back the latter half of Janurary!

Give my best to Bryce and Blayze while home for the Holidays.

Re: Goodland Holiday Classic Pools - 12/19/04 11:47 PM

stud_53 -

Ummmmmm......hate to tell you this, but pretty sure Scott City took third. Champion of Pool A, Champion of Pool B, and Champion of Pool C = 1st, 2nd, 3rd. If Goodland won your poll, the best you could have done is 4th.

Guess the laugh is on you for not even knowing what place your team took, huh?

Re: Goodland Holiday Classic Pools - 12/19/04 11:52 PM

I was not impressed with the Sprigg vs Miller match. I thought both guys are overhyped. I was impressed with the Norton and Goodland teams. As young as Goodland is they will only get better as the year goes on. As for Miller and Sprigg They were not even the best heavies in the gym that day.

Re: Goodland Holiday Classic Pools - 12/20/04 03:56 AM

My opinion, Sprigg has never impressed me, but seems to always get it done in the end.
