National Duels Brackets

National Duels Brackets - 01/08/08 03:45 PM

http://www.nationalduals.com/

They have posted the D1, D3, NJCAA, NAIA, and NWCA Brackets. The DII Bracket isn't currently posted.

Two Kansas schools in the NJCAA bracket and they face each other first round...go figure. Labette vs. Colby on Saturday.

Re: National Duels Brackets - 01/08/08 06:13 PM

Who does everyone have??? I am thinking a Minnesota v. Iowa in the finals and Iowa taking the title. I think they revenge a loss from Iowa State and Minnesota upsets #1 Penn State.

Can KSU or Newman win NCWA Bracket?

DII Bracket is out...

This could be interesting. Is anyone headed up there? I think they keep decent updates. If not...please try to update us here.

I guess Colby has withdrawn from the National Duels. Labette will face Nassau first round. Nassau is a New York school that is always tough.

Re: National Duels Brackets - 01/10/08 03:59 PM

KSU faces #1 seed Grand Valley state in the first round. They will be a few weight classes short as they head up there but I'm sure they'll represent well.

Newman is seeded #3 and faces Bowling Green in the first round.

Good luck to both teams!!

After looking a little closer at match ups...I have convinced myself that Labette leaves with the title this weekend.

Is anyone from Kansas at this meet going to give updates on our Kansas kids?

I am in Chicago right now and on my way. I have my laptop and a notebook so I hope to catch as much info as possible and then I will relay it on here. I am so excited to see so much great wrestling in one spot.

Intermat has a set up for live scores http://www.intermatwrestle.com

I am suppose to get some match details relayed to me throughout the weekend. Ms. Jenni looks to be our best source though.

Better yet...You can watch live on 6 of the mats on LiveSportVideo...also linked off of intermat. It's free!

Re: National Duels Brackets - 01/12/08 04:53 PM

It looks like it is just the D1 matches right now that you can watch live.

I see Elliott (UCO) got a pin to start the day, after Zukerman #1 suffered a loss. UCO currently up 18-9.

Tyler McCormick (MIS)suffered a loss this morning.

Baldridge (UNI) suffered a loss to a U. Michigan kid 8-5.

Re: National Duels Brackets - 01/12/08 08:30 PM

Elliott with a 14-4 major over Pederson (UIU) currently ranked #4 in DII. Nice Win!

Re: National Duels Brackets - 01/12/08 09:39 PM

Edison just held off his opponent to win 13-12...that seals it for UCO over Upper Iowa.

Labette is winning 19-7 over Nassau...

Re: National Duels Brackets - 01/12/08 11:01 PM

Labette won 8 of 10 matches in the duel with Nassau. They lost at 25 and 33. I got the impression there were a lot of tight matches.

Re: National Duels Brackets - 01/12/08 11:14 PM

Tim Elliott was in control all the way against No. 4 Jacob Pederson and added a late near-fall to secure a 14-4 major decision,

Re: National Duels Brackets - 01/12/08 11:19 PM

and Jarrett Edison jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead before holding on for a wild 14-12 victory at 197 to seal the dual.

Re: National Duels Brackets - 01/12/08 11:25 PM

The Hilltoppers scored a fall at 165 and a major decision at 174 to get within 18-13, but Heath Jolley had a methodical 9-3 triumph at 184 and Jarrett Edison made a first-period takedown stand up in a 3-2 win at 197 that clinched the dual.

Re: National Duels Brackets - 01/12/08 11:25 PM

Where did you find the Labette results?
Posted By: kylek

Re: National Duels Brackets - 01/12/08 11:27 PM

Elliott, a junior college national champion last year who transferred to UCO at the semester break, continued his impressive start with a first-period fall over No. 7-ranked Matt Mossor. Elliott needed just 1:31 to dispose of Mossor and improve to 5-0 after going unbeaten in four matches at last weekend’s Lone Star Duals.

Re: National Duels Brackets - 01/12/08 11:53 PM

I am getting updates from someone at the tourney on the Labette results. The intermat site isn't keeping up with much other than the NCAAs. I am hoping they will update and try to get us some live scores tomorrow. I know they all wrestled well, Nassau is tough. They are currently #2 in NJCAA DIII (the non scholarship schools) and it sounds like they are better than that. I know Morgan won 4-2 and I think Yust was 5-3? Hynick looked tough at 49, and Ward is still coming on strong. Not sure on all the scores. It sounded like there were some "Unfortunate" calls, but they didn't affect any outcomes. About all I know...

Oh...

The commentators on the Live Sports Video webcast made note of K-States NWCA club team and the efforts to re-instate wrestling at K-State. They segued into the strength of Kansas wrestlers and the fact the state has produced a lot of great wrestlers. They made note of Melvin Douglas and attempted to recall his Olympic and World Championship accolades. They also noted Zach Robertson and his accolades as well as his current training to make the Olympic team.

It was nice to hear all of that on a broadcast of the NWCA National Duels!

Re: National Duels Brackets - 01/13/08 01:00 AM

Ike,

So Labette DID win, right? I read your posts and called Jarrett and he says he talked to the Labette guys and they won two. Is that right?

Man, I must be getting old or something. I have been to mega
tournaments before but I could not keep up on my KS guys today. You have to know the location, the singlets and then guess the weights and all at the same time. I really couldn't keep up like I normally do. You already put the UCo stuff on and that I know well. I know some of the girl stuff but none of our KS girls were listed in the program and I didn't see any wrestle.

Newman did well. Curtis sat with me awhile and they look solid for tomorrow.

If anyone has anything specific they want to know...let me know and with a game plan I can be sure to watch the right mat at the right time.

Iowa spanked MO and put them to bed.

There were some upsets and some great wrestling. I am really glad I came.

Re: National Duels Brackets - 01/13/08 01:17 AM

Yes Labette won. The big match up in my assessment is the semi's tomorrow vs. Iowa Central...winner takes the finals. I think we match up well with them. They are really strong in the lower wts...I wish they didn't start all the duels at 125. We are pretty solid at the low wts. too and the 141 pound freshmen Ward is really getting in a groove. Look for Labette to storm through the upper weights against Iowa Central. Hohensee (HWT) had a big win today over #4 from Nassau. It will be a great duel. I'm excited to see get any tidbits you can provide. I should have made the trip...Crazy matches all day long it looked like.

Tim Elliott is now 8-0 for UCO. This weekend: He pinned the #7 ranked wrestler in the country, majored 14-4 the #4 wrestler, a T-fall and a 13-1 decision. Impressive start!

Division II Outstanding Wrestler Derek Bomstad on 6th Place Team!

Iowa is about to win the D1 Championship.

There was a lot of good wrestling and a lot of upsets up there this weekend. Overall the Kansans did pretty well. I like the national tournament chances of some of the guys. There is still a lot of action this year...support these guys.
