2013 Schoolboy Duals!! - 03/29/13 01:16 PM

Kansas Schoolboy Duals National Team Info:

We plan to take two teams to Indianapolis this year. Both teams will wrestle freestyle and greco, so there will be about 15 or more possible matches per wrestler over a 4 day period.

Eligibility:

Kansas resident, member of USAWKS, born in 1999 or 2000.

The weight classes are: 70, 77, 84, 91, 98, 105, 112, 120, 128, 136, 144, 152, 160, 175, 190, 210, 265

Team Selection:

The 2013 Schoolboy Duals National Dual Teams will be selected by using the Kansas State FS/GR tournament at Hutchinson High School on May 4-5 as a gauge. This is not the lone criteria, and we also will use wrestleoffs to help pick our team members.

Costs:
This year’s cost is around $250/$300 per wrestler. This covers all expenses, including entry fees, transportation, meals, housing, and includes two singlets, and other custom apparel. Make checks payable to USAWKS.

If you have any other questions, please contact Tom Williams at wilgt@msn.com or 913.485.8279.

This is this year's flyer:

2013 Kansas Schoolboy Freestyle/Greco Dual Teams

-We are now preparing for the 2013 Kansas Schoolboy Duals, held June 5th – June 9th in Indianapolis, Indiana. Schoolboy Duals is an exciting opportunity for your young wrestler to grow and mature as a young man and a wrestler. This year we plan to take 2 Greco and 2 Freestyle teams for Team Kansas.

-This is a very tough national competition. Team Kansas has medaled in the top 8 teams of 25 to 30 states’ teams in almost all of the the last several years. We have also had numerous individual medalists.
-We conduct a 2 or 3 day overnight camp in the Kansas City area, then board vans to travel to Indiana for the tournament. We stay in hotels, with adult coaches/chaperones supervising the athletes.

-You must be born in 1999 or 2000 to be eligible to participate.

-The weight classes are: 70, 77, 84, 91, 98, 105, 112, 120, 128, 136, 144, 152, 160, 175, 190, 210, 265

-Each wrestler will receive 2 custom designed Team Kansas singlets, two custom designed tshirts, and a pair of shorts, all designed by Blue Chip Athletics.

- Once delivered to Kansas City, all lodging, transportation, meals, and equipment/apparel is provided by Team Kansas.

-The 2013 National Schoolboy duals give you the opportunity to wrestle up to 15 or more matches in 4 days! It’s a great learning experience and a lot of fun. Please email me with any questions or interest, and I will be contacting many of you as well or talking with you at upcoming tournaments. If you know any other wrestlers born in 1999 or 2000 that are interested have them give me a call or e-mail as well. I will be at many of the upcoming tournaments and will see you there.

Good luck in all your wrestling, and let’s make the 2012 Kansas National Schoolboy team one of the best and make some noise this summer.

Re: 2013 Schoolboy Duals!! - 05/07/13 02:57 PM

I have several applications, if you want consideration for this year's team, please send in the application or email me at wilgt@msn.com, so I can put your wrestler on the list.

Some questions that I have received:

1. Southern Plains to KC transportation. We will have coaches/parents who can get your wrestler from Dodge City to KC. Just let us know.

2. Indianapolis hotel details. We have negotiated a $45 room rate at our hotel, the Quality Inn in Greenfield IN. This is where the team will be staying, and their regular rate is $75 plus. To get this rate, we have a minimum room obligation, so if you plan to attend the event, we ask that you book through us and help us get this low rate. Anyone who wants a room please email me and I will put you on the list.

3. Chaperones. We have a couple of spots available for chaperones, which means staying in a room with 3 wrestlers. Your cost is about $15 per night, so a cheap way to help out and attend the event. If you are interested, let me know.

4. KC help. We are looking for someone to help at our resident camp in KC. This would include help in the kitchen and general stuff like getting supplies. If interested, please let me know.

I will post an updated interested wrestlers list tonight.

Re: 2013 Schoolboy Duals!! - 05/22/13 08:53 PM

I was just wondering when teams will be established. And, will there be challenge matches at the camp for teams right before we leave for Indy?
Posted By: Coomes7

Re: 2013 Schoolboy Duals!! - 05/22/13 08:57 PM

And, will the team singlets be posted on here? If so, when will they be posted?

Re: 2013 Schoolboy Duals!! - 05/23/13 11:09 PM

Schoolboy Duals will be two periods of two minutes each in length.

The Kids/Cadet Executive Committee voted to keep Cadets at two 3-minute periods. All of the Kids’ divisions will wrestle two 2-minute periods except for Bantam, which will wrestle two 90-second periods.

In addition, the 30 second freestyle passivity clock is eliminated for the Kids’ divisions. The second passivity call will be a Caution – 1 pt.

Re: 2013 Schoolboy Duals!! - 05/24/13 12:09 PM

Mark,

Singlets probably won't be posted. BlueChip is working them and the same design is used for Schoolboys, Cadets, and Juniors.

We are still trying to contact kids so we can fill 2 teams.

As far as when teams will be established we will do that at the camp. This is the first year we have had 2 teams. We will look at the kids at camp and make the call. We may have to do some challenges at camp. A lot of this will depend on the numbers.

Regardless of all that....here is what I can guarantee to every kid that is willing to step up and be part of this experience...

1. You will get plenty of matches with great quality opponents. Every kid will get at least 8-10 matches (most will get around 12-15).

2. You will get to experience a great camp and and the opportunity to train with some of the best kids in the state at your age.

3. Fun! We will have a blast! You will make friendships with your teammates that will last a lifetime!

If interested, please call me or text me at 913-775-3803.
